I use one on my 5 lb Chihuahua. Works a lot better on him than a heavy ass leash. Therefore, what you like and dislike is irrelevant.

Hate retractable leashes. They don't retract properly when my dog is pulling on it.

they are MUCH better than a traditional leash by far

Reason 4: Locks breaking - These locks are notorious for getting stuck and if you get stuck at a longer length, you're not putting you or your dog in a good situation.

Reason 3: Tangled Leash - This long cord can get tangled on just about anything when it has the slightest bit of length. If your dog smells something and gets wrapped around it, you and them can get stressed and potentially hurt.

I only use this when my dog is fully trained. My husky has one. And all I have to do is raise my voice and he is pretty good.

Too bad little thing. Only leash I use. Bite me. HA

Reason 2: ❌ No Control - This applies to multiple things. Unfriendly dog approaches and your dog is so far out in front of you that you can't bring them back. A car is coming towards you and your dog is close to the road. Your dog sees something they want (like a squirrel) and pulls you towards it, potentially pulling the lightweight handle out of your hand, or worse, the previous (finger/hand injury)

✅ I HIGHLY recommend using 4-6 ft. leashes (know your dog to know your length). One rule with dog training is that if you can see your dog's butt, then they're too far out in front of you!

Reason 1: Finger/Hand Injuries - If that thin cord gets wrapped around your hand and your dog pulls hard, it could severely slice up your hand or worse, sever your finger. Think about rope burn but with a thinner cord (OUCH!)
