Glad I watched this before buying a leash for my dogs. I never knew how bad those were till I watched this video. Thanks for putting this video up. God bless ya and all your efforts in teaching us what to do and what NOT to do with our dogs, also the best ways to train our dogs.

Watched this video and bought a retractible leash. 100% of what was said can happen with the normal leash.

Solution: be aware of what’s around and train your dogs lol

I have an extra long and strong flexi leash which I use when walking my dog in the woods. I love it so he can run freely without worrying he will get away or if there’s another dog in the trail. Use it with common sense and it’s fine:)

But if you use the lock mechanism. It's a normal leash, so what's the problem?

I love this video however most of your reasons I face with a regular leash as well 🤷🏽‍♀️

Been using them for years, never had a problem with it, only watched this out of boredom.
Nothing in there that will convince me not to use one. If used responsibly they are a marvellous invention, far more control over your dog than letting it run rampant in public and causing chaos with other dogs.

Well, to be honest. The waste majority of these reasons why you should never used retractable leash are caused by wrong manipulation with the leash. But that doesn't mean that a person who knows how to use one of these should not use it. Yeah it's certainly more difficult to learn how to properly use it... but these injuries... they're caused by wrong manipulation with retractable leash and not by the leash itself.

The whole video is like "10 reasons you should never use a car" news post in the early 1900. If you know how to use it, then you can take advantage of the pros. If you don't, you can learn. Don't let your own stupidity ruin a good product.

They are fine if you use them propley And not on the road. You can get tape leads as well.

literally, most of these examples can happen with regular leashes too lmfao

Silly. Use it responsibly. you can lock it shorter when you come up to a dog. If your dog is pulling like crazy on the lease you have not trained the dog properly. For a well trained dog it woks fine. I run 8 to 10 mile runs with my dog, it's way safer having the retractable lease that the dog does not "keep getting tangled in feet/legs" as the dog moves up and back while running with you.

For me, I live in the country and my backyard is an unfenced tiny ravine. I use the retractable leash so that my dog is able to go the length of the backyard to find a good place to go potty. But also to maintain control so that they don't try to climb up the ravine. It honestly works perfect for my situation but I wouldn't use it for walks in public situations. My dog is a very laid back dog so it's not spastic or out of control going to the backyard to go potty and I've never and all the years lived here had any problems. So I definitely think that some situations like mine it can be useful but I think it's probably just best for most consumers to avoid retractable leashes.

Retractable leashes are a great training tool when used properly! I am a dog trainer and use these to give my clients dogs freedom to roam and explore. They are great to use for hiking and recall training. These leashes were not meant to use to walk your dog in busy crowded areas. However if your dog is properly leash trained, you should have no issue walking by your side with any leash. Retractable leashes are not bad, but you must know how to use them.

It's a tool. Like all tools it is dangerous to use without knowing how to. There are no videos telling us not to use chainsaws.

Absolutely senseless advice . Retractable leashes have locking devices to keep the animal at your comfortable length. The injuriesound. made up . Seems that she has a grudge against retractable leash . I walk 3 small dogs all on retractable leashes, have had a doberman who I also walked with a retractable leash . All on the road, and that too in India with awry traffic and gangs of feral aggressive stray dogs . Just causing unnecessary panic .

Use common sense when using retractable leads. I always reel the lead in if there’s a lot of dogs on the field and when I’m walking my dog on the pavement I always have it short. Just use common sense for goodness sake.
