Our dog somehow hung himself when we left his leash on, we saved him but leashes can be dangerous if left on

You can recall them and have a way to corral them with a normal leash. Thats not a specialty with retractable leashes. Theyre dumb tools. Regular leashes are always better. Sometimes the owner just wants to be lazy

Hate the retractable leash. Most that buy it are lazy owners with little awareness around them and have small dogs. Small dogs get hurt by me because owners keep the leash too long and Fluffy gets hit by a car because it ran in the street.
I've seen kids on bikes run through the leash and the owner is shocked they have to take their dog to the vet.
As a driver and dog owner, please pick a different leash. If your walking in public, keep it short with two handles. If your dog is strong, that leash isn't doing to stop them from chasing something they really want

Actually it is really bad for the dog to have a leash on all the time pls take it off and most retractable leashes have locks so you can have your puppy close to you so they are fine
