Maul was trained as a Sith assassin in a move that technically violated the sacred Rule of Two. However, Darth Plagueis approved of Sidious training the Zabrak, viewing Maul as nothing more than a disposable asset. During his training, Sidious took Maul to the world of Malachor. Here, amidst the ruins of a cataclysmic battle between Jedi and Sith, he forced Maul to inhale the ashes of long-dead Sith warriors. As the ashes filled his lungs, Maul was plunged into a nightmarish vision. Maul experienced the brutal demise of his Sith brethren at the hands of Jedi Knights, feeling the pain as lightsabers cut through flesh, and experienced the death of his order over and over again, instilling a fervent desire for revenge. This torment forged Maul’s unwavering hatred for the Jedi, igniting a burning ambition to help his master destroy the Jedi and restore the Sith to their former glory.

Plaguis was an idiot. Sidious was notably careful not to repeat his mistake by never letting his own apprentices take on their own students.

lol maul was never a violation of the rule of 2 and neither was Assaj… they were sith assasins which are basically same thing as sith Acolytes which are aspiring to become Sith Lords. by the time maul killed a jedi master and technically became a Sith lord in lores eyes was after Plagues was killed by Sheev
