The 3 REASONS You Should AVOID MOST Dairy | Mark Hyman

We’ve been told over and over again that dairy is a great source of calcium; that milk makes healthy bones and we should drink it daily. I’m here to tell you that this is not true. Cow’s milk from conventionally raised cattle contains dozens of reproductive hormones, allergenic proteins, antibiotics, chemicals, inflammatory compounds, and growth factors, some of which are known to promote cancer. While humans are the only species that continue to drink milk after weaning, we have no biological requirement for this food. Moreover, the milk we drink today is not what our grandparents drank.

In this episode of my new Masterclass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about why we should avoid almost all dairy. We also discuss some of the popular myths about dairy, the types of dairy that are okay to eat, and much more.

Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. His podcast, Dhru Purohit Podcast, is a top 50 global health podcast with over 30+ million unique downloads. His interviews focus on the inner workings of the brain and the body and feature the brightest minds in wellness, medicine, and mindset.

This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Paleovalley.

Is anybody else getting tired of one video saying - You Should AVOID DAIRY At All Costs!, and the next video they watch saying yogurt is one of the best foods you should consume?

I have MS and I have noticed when I don’t have dairy and gluten my symptoms are stable and I don’t have swelling and pain. Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge to truly help us get to root cause of our medical problems.

Stopping Dairy transformed my life! I had a terrible problem with post-nasal drip and chronic diarrhea for years. I'd been to several different doctors, some of them internal medicine drs and specialists, and NOT ONE of them ever mentioned dairy might be a problem. Finally, a friend of mine mentioned that it might be the culprit, in conversation. I was desperate so I tried cutting out dairy and using lactase in the rare events when I would have a little dairy, like cheese, in something and the tummy problems totally disappeared, as did most of the nasal problems. Those even extended to my ears stopping up as if I was on an airplane. No dairy, and all that stopped! It was an astonishing cure for those ills.

My 8 siblings and I grew up on a Saskatchewan farm where we hand milked 5 cows and drank the milk daily!
No problem, ever!!!

I grew up on a dairy, in a family of Swiss-Italian dairy farmers, who still make some of the best cheese and yogurt in Switzerland (my family's dairy, in San Bruno California, is now under YouTube). I could not agree more. I live in Europe where I suspect conditions for healthy agriculture are marginally better than the US, still I find factory food to be generally a threat to human health.
Good information, especially about butter, since I made ghee today. Thank you...jt

Totally agree with you. It made a huge difference for my son when we cut dairy and gluten. Huge improvement! Thank you

Here’s the thing; no WAY.
I love good dairy. Organic, grass-fed, preferably unpasteurized but I’ll drink pasteurized too. You can get A2 milk now, too, as well as no-growth-hormone or GMO food. C’mon.
Also, sorry, cheese is a bloody miracle of culture. It’s brilliant and I won’t live without it.
Plus, yogurt?? And other fermented stuff like Kefir?
And give up BUTTER??? NO. Saturated fat is bloody awesome.

I quit sugar, starch, grains and most fruit lost 25 lbs in 2 months, no more joint pain, no more blood pressure meds, A1C from 5.7 to 5.2. Eating meat/fish/eggs, modest whole fat dairy, seeds and nuts snd low glycemic vegetables. The poison is the excess glucose.

We just have full fat, non-homogenized milk, lot of cheese, butter and cream (that are low in lactose). Lost weight and feel better than ever. Recently added daily Vitamins A, D3, K2 too, coconut cream and reduced bread/grains, fruit juices. Basically, the opposite to what our Doctor told us would happen who suggested low fat milk, no butter, no cream, little cheese and more grains.

How about greek yoghurt, high fat cream and a quality whey protein?

I am 67, have been drinking milk since I was a little kid. Moved to Danmark in 06’ and lucky to have a ‘natural’ dairy down the road. Whole milk only, low pasteurized, grass and non gmo grain fed cows. Maybe some people shouldn’t drink milk but I have lots of friends my age and older and on the whole, our bone density is much better (for our age) than our friends who don’t drink milk and they get bone breaks and fractures easily but we milk drinkers aren’t affected like they are with bone fragility. Maybe it’s just coincidence but it’s a strange coincidence when you consider I am talking about a group of woman that numbers about thirty.

From what I've read in the comments section is that most people aren't listening to Dr. Hyman.
They modify their diet and eat what they think is healthy.
I'm listening to the Dr. myself.

When in human history did we consume nut/seed milks? Why no mention of the high concentration of oxylates in almond milk? Phytic acid?

I've lived in Wisconsin, the Dairy State, all my life and have drank milk all my life without problem. I'm in good health and I enjoy milk so I see no reason to stop. That along with all dairy.

I gave up soda about 15 years ago. I drink coffee maybe 1-2 cups of coffee daily and I drink about 3/4 cup of organic grass fed milk everyday. I eat organic grass fed beef and butter. Most of my food is organic...veggies, meat, milk, butter, fruit, eggs etc. The difference in eggs amazed me when I started them. The taste is great, the color is amazing!

Removing gluten and dairy drastically improved my health. Gluten and dairy seriously flare up my fibromyalgia and cause lots of pain, aches, fatigue, brain fog etc. Organic Whole food, plant based diet focussing mainly on organic vegetables and fruit is so incredibly healing.
