3 reasons why you should talk about resilient cities now
Показать описание
#1 More and more people are living in urban areas. Megacities with more than 10 million people are increasing in number.
#2 Extreme weather events or terror attacks are hitting citizens more and more frequently. For cities it´s becoming harder to get back on track afterwards, because electric power, communication, water and food supply are highly connected today. In case of disruption the whole system is prone to fail.
# 3 You can´t prevent any disruption or shock from happening, but you can build the capacity to withstand. This is where the German Fraunhofer Institute of High-Speed Dynamics steps in: By developing software solutions to simulate extreme events in order to protect infrastructures and save people´s lives, by developing retrofits for older houses or completely new construction techniques. These are convenient tools for city planners worldwide to prepare and minimize damages after the next extreme event.
The “TAURUS” project led by Fraunhofer EMI is part of BMBF´s international campaign “Building the City of Tomorrow”.
