Every Canadian: “So you mean normal cold.”

Why not call an electrician and make a proper charging installation? When you already spent tens of thousands of $$ on a car like that, it makes sense to spend a few hundred to be able to charge in the comfort of your home. That would be the first thing I would do.

The newer Tesla model 3s have heat pumps so they are more efficient in the cold

Good thing I can’t afford it any time soon, hopefully when I’m ready in a couple of year they would’ve fixed all these issues

The new model 3 Tesla's have 353 miles of range so that's not bad for a road trip. So it depends on the model of Tesla you get one for more city driving and the other more for road trips. Using the AC in a petrol car does lower your car’s fuel efficiency by an average of 3 miles per gallon depending on the age and size of your car. So Tesla will have something similar to that effect. Shelby would need to provide the car efficiency data (which all Tesla's have in the heads up display or settings on the tablet) to get a better idea how much charge the A/C or heater is using.

Great points worth considering, I've experienced the same. Depends on how much you'll love driving a Tesla over the inconveniences.

Superchargers are being added with my experience on the east cost is on major highways.

I've heard that it's much easier to just charge it for a few minutes without waiting until that LOW THRESHOLD where it needs to "warm up" to get to the supercharging zone. It makes sense. And I also live in Cali so we have tons of superchargers that you can sit for a few minutes instead of an hour+ because you waited until the battery was so low. Little charges make it more manageable. Just like filling gas is probably best at the half mark so if you forget and have shit to do, you aren't panicking about gas.

I live in Norway. In the winter we get up to -20 degrees celcius sometimes even more. I got the new 2021 longe range Model 3 with heat pump. No problem at all, it handels snow and cold weather with no problem

I agree to all three, have a model s 75D and thought this would be my travel vehicle . After driving for 2 years realized you need a 300 + for road trips, I’m going with 400 + mile range for my travel vehicle and that’s because Tesla reduces the speed of supercharging once over 50 % .

I live in Fairbanks and drive around at -30F all the time! Model 3 works like a champ. I charge with the 120V and it works just fine.

Hey Shelby Thanks a bunch for this informative video you made, it does solidify my decision to buying an EV. However, this issue did come across my mind, specially if I take a trip more than the mileage it offers per/charge. Take care!!

the 2021 Tesla Model 3, does now have a heat pump (better energy efficient in cold climates) and the octave valve, which keeps the battery cool, utilizing the cells better
