Have you been sitting in Starbucks for days, sipping lattes and hopelessly sending out job application after job application? You're certainly not alone. There are 11.7 million unemployed people struggling to find a job in America. Prof. Carrie Kerekes presents three reasons finding a job in today's market is so difficult: a mismatch of skills, government regulations, and uncertainty in the market. These three things all have one common factor: government interference.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU GET EXPERIENCE IF YOU CAN'T GET A JOB IN THE FIRST FUCKING PLACE?!?!?!

How can one get experience when every job requires experience?

Well, I am 43, with 24 years work experience, can´t find a job because many companies think I am simply overqualified. I have good education, respected professional certifications, I am motivated but still not able to find a job for the last 2 years.Crazy!!!!

$15 an hour flipping burgers for youngsters. I'm in my 50s and I've never earned $15 an hour in my entire life.

They don't want to hire younger workers with no track record of experience or reliability nor do they want to hire older workers who have years of experience and reliability.

I wholeheartedly agree. I graduated with a Comm Degree and we didn't learn ANY of the skills that are required for people in this field. We were studying benign topics like gender stereotypes in TV shows when we should have been studying PR, news releases, marketing, ect. Ridiculous.

The video missed on one very big point, which is banks not lending to small and start up businesses and instead funneling it into houses. This causes all the inflation to go into houses, which is why wages never keep up. Governments don't actually run the economy. Banks do, but your government won't dare tell you that.

What needs to be realized is that there is always a "choice" in this type of situation, people just don't realize it. The problem is that less and less jobs are available, as many are outsourced or replaced by machines, and more and more are trying to look for work. When a person can't find a job where they aren't underworked, they have the choice whether to continue to struggle in the job market, or look for ways to personally earn money through entrepreneurship, investing, or self-employment.

You forgot another valid reason - Laziness! As well as too many young people feeling they're 'above' certain jobs

I graduated high school last year in June. Took me until last month to finally get my first job and that was with the help of my brother and his friend who just happen to work at this Domino's in the next town over. However, pretty much everybody I know got a job almost immediately when they first tried to. So I don't know.

Not to mention long term unemployment, been out of work for more than a year and I still get rejection letters from restaurants as a waiter. Most employers have unhealthy biases over those who are unemployed. I almost landed a job in Loss prevention at a mall and the lead prevention officer and the others in the department told me that I am more qualified than anyone else applying for their job but the manager refused to hire me because I was unemployed and gave it to a girl who sleeps at the job.

I love it when college professors talk of a free labor market when their jobs are guaranteed through tenure - this is total BS

Great video
Tells it like it is
We need lower taxes on everyone, less government regulations and rules, smaller government, and more economic certainty. Only that will improve the economy for everyone.

It's that simple.  Quite the right-wing crap, and get to the root problem.  H1B, Green Cards, and outsourcing.  END THEM ALL

You have to hire young people for them to gain experience. Them not hiring ue to experience silly.

As a former employer...this video is not total garbage.
I can promise you from personal experience that uncertainty is a very strong factor. When O'Bomb'a was elected, I closed down a 10, 000 sq ft retail store as a direct result. Gov't regulation is a HUGE roadblock to hiring and it's a fact that you'll not easily find a job if you have a degree that isn't in demand. I certainly agree with you that there's much MUCH more that needs to be covered when discussing reasons jobs are hard to find.

Tried applying at McDonalds on national hiring day, why? I needed work hours for a course in college. I thought I had it in the bag to be honest, I had a year's experience in doing culinary at my school cafe, but despite that it probably wasn't enough. If it was anything that probably didn't get me the job it was a quiz I was required to fill out, now there were no right or wrong answers it was mostly personal questions and common sense questions.

I think one commonly overlooked problem with the struggle to find "jobs" is that many don't realize that the traditional way of earning a position in a corporation is becoming obsolete. With the power of the internet, individuals can now educate themselves easily, create their own international businesses right from their computer, or earn money freelancing for others.

So many are being persuaded that a degree is the only way one can make money, thinking it's the only way to get a job.
