Depression and sleep are complicated partners. For people that struggle with depression, it can mean sleeping a lot -- like 12-16 hours a day -- but still feeling unrefreshed. For others it could mean having more fragmented sleep, like sleeping in smaller chunks or struggling to fall asleep at all.
Or maybe you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t quite fall back asleep.
In this video, we explore some of the ways depression disrupts our sleep quality, and why sleep quality can actually be a biomarker that predicts an oncoming period of depression. We speak to Dr. Brandon Peters, a board-certified neurologist and sleep expert, and Dr. Michael Breus, a board-certified clinical psychologist and sleep expert.
