I can honestly admit that I drove myself into depression, and it took courage to admit that, but it was my first step in getting out of depression, and learning how to live happily. Thank you Sadhguru! I, and solely I, can direct and am responsible for what happens inside of me.

I agree with what he is saying. He's not saying what's happened to you to make you depressed is your fault, but he is saying if you don't wake up and realize you're in a mess, then you can't fix it.... totally agree with that

Another person who wrote in depth into the aspects of ego, pain and depression is Eckhart Tolle. We're fortunate that we get all this understanding so easily now. The mind incessantly thinks thousands of thoughts and emotions a day, most of it repetitive and negative. That itself is in fact a disease, because thinking is using us rather than the other way around. The mind cannot be at ease. Just asking people to simply sit and do nothing except eat, exercise, sleep and stay silent for just 2 days is enough to make most people crazy - that lack of ease is indeed disease. I know, I'm trying.

That girl, by saying that "I'm entitled to my sadness", is investing too much into her emotion - and that's the very mistake Sadhguru talks about. It is only this when it goes so deep that it actually imprints on your brain and genetic structure that it becomes pathological. They differ only in degree.

Many people who are clinically depressed have had a history of negative thought patterns for many years before their minds make it permanent. In fact most of our insanity is simply hidden by the dense physical body even in apparently 'normal' people.

As Sri Yukteshwar Giri put it "Observe you thoughts unremittingly for a period of 24 hours, and then wonder no longer at the absence of God".

Soo True sadhguru..!!! That "our physical and mental health is our fundamental responsibility. We have to take charge of both at an early age." If this one thing sinks in our heads...most of them will Never choose to be depressed.
They will use that situation as a fuel to grow in Life.

Thank you Sadhguru for guiding us in every aspect of life🙏

Thats what happens when you ask a question but already strongly filled with ur opinions about it and you can't understand what the other person is saying no matter how clear and logical it is...

Actually by understanding and accepting that things do not always go the way you want can make you more relaxed and at ease. Also to understand that depression is not permanent and not trying to get rid of the depressed state when it happens, Simply see it as impermanent and not self can really make a difference in your life.

He is probably asking people not to ‘normalize’ depression. Most depression is because people are unable to handle the situations they find themselves in.

Those willing to be honest and face themselves know this is true.

Those who want to blame someone else and not take responsibility will choose to be offended by the idea that depression is a choice.

The end goal for assisting someone with Depression / Anxiety is to strive towards making them stronger and more self reliant, yes.
However...apathy towards their suffering serves nobody’s best interests. We are all here on earth to become the best possible versions of ourselves. But we do so in order to better reduce the suffering of others. Particularly our family, friends and neighbors. That’s the only worthwhile meaning to Life that I’ve found to be indisputable! That’s how we make a little Heaven on earth

In simple words, One is responsible for the choices in life and life itself. It doesn't mean we dismiss the misery and sadness or depression, but if we don't take control of ourselves and our life, then that's our choice as well..

No, The point should be "everyone has a responsibility to take care of their mental and physical health at the best of their abilities" not "depression is a choice"

One thing that I found very powerful in dealing with depression is, our surroundings be it people, places or other things.

I try to be with people that are happy and have positive attitude, who talk about positive aspects more in life.

I found out isolation is one big factor leads to sadness, volunteering helps and a sense of Belonging to something greater generates very powerful energy in us.

Overall, here are other things that helped me in my journey towards happier life:

- Acceptance
-Be around happy/positive people
-ditch news/ politics
-walks
-Anti inflammatory diet ( most of the time)
-3-4 day exercise
-vitamin D levels
-friendship over love ( So called Love 😂)
-defining priorities
-Gratitude

PS: I am still trying, inch by inch, life is a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard ✅😊

I absolutely agree! You are in control of how you think and also how you respond to thoughts. If you choose to be depressed it’s because you are trying to force something your way! The natural flow of life does not require force therefore depression would not even be a issue

It is interesting to hear it practically spoken, instead of as an existential shame. Sadness will happen and sometimes we push ourselves over the line and into depression, but if we are patient it will pass. Maybe we sleep some of it off, maybe we write, maybe we get physical exercise, etc. Sometimes it is healthy to pull ourselves out of bed, away from trying to analyze every trauma and "fix it", or push our bodies to their limits, and we just try to be present in this life. We breathe, we watch the animals live their day, we enjoy some tea, and we simply exist and let the feelings pass through their process, rather than fighting ourselves. It's going to happen and sometimes we develop habits that keep us from being present, and instead push us further from sadness and into depression, and that is ok. Let yourself be and remember that you are not your body, you are it's guide, and you may respect the experience your body is going through and comfort it through care.

Sometimes I feel like the luckiest person alive,
other times I am very depressed. I find keeping
a stable mood for extended periods of time
difficult. I did meditation and realized not being
aware of your own thoughts and feelings leads
to this imbalance. Meaning, the clearer grasp we
have on reality, the closer to truth we are,
and the closer to truth we are, the happier we are.
This is why over indulgence in entertainment leads
to depressions because we are leaving ourselves.
If when you are bored you sit in silence and monitor
your own thoughts, you will be in a better frame of
mind than if you ended your boredom by watching tv
or a movie. Over stimulation secretes excessive amounts
of dopamine from our brains, so that when we stop having
so much secreted we fall to a very heavy depression. Limit
your stimulation, and focus on yourself. you will be happier.

How wise! Experiencing this myself at the moment - we can edge ourselves into depression by choice. We must take responsibility for our physical and mental health.
