How I Solved My Chronic Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis is a problem that can persist. Rest and ice is great, but your problem can resurface. I have found that athletic tape - a very old, and time tested method - is still the best ... and least it has been for me. Learn how to tape you ankle quickly and effectively, by yourself (without the need of a trainer).

I started doing calf raises and one leg calf raises. Also I walk backwards for about 20mins daily. That has minimized the pain day by day. I can feel the pain slowly going away.

@jeromep4148 I wanted to thank you for taking the time to create this video. I'm 46 and I absolutely love basketball and I play it 3-4 times a week. A few weeks ago, for the first time in my life I started to feel some pain in my Achilles. Ever since it's been a mad scramble of trial and error trying to find a solution. I started to get a bit depressed thinking that I would have to give up playing. Your simple taping technique has made a world of difference. Thanks again buddy!

I've tried most solutions on youtube. This one gave me the most resolution. I tried ice, wraps, ibuprofen, gels, rest, etc. Athletic tape is a fantastic solution. Thanks Jerome.

Hi Jerome, thank you for sharing your story and taping technique. I was starting to have Achilles tendonitis and tried the tape before jogging or playing basketball and my Achilles tendonitis is no more. Before trying the tape I would exercise or play basketball only to wake the next day barely being able to walk. Now i wake up fine and am able to continue the next morning without any pain. I am extremely happy I came across this video and am thankful for YouTube.

Totally agree with the taping method as I can only imagine how those sports where you're launching and changing directions quickly would aggravate the heck out of the achilles.
I have chronic tendinopathy in both ankles and only after a year and a half, I am steadily improving through a multi pronged approach.
Home use of a massage gun, hand massage, gentle stretches but most importantly plenty of calf raises and farmers walking.
I now do about 400 raises a day and now I walk with 33 pound dumbells for a long distances including up hills.
It's all about forcing the tendons to normalize and heal and I believe it is possible at any age to achieve this as long as the approach is steady and not overloading the tendons too early.

Will give this taping technique a try. Thanks for showing the tape you use. You're right about rest. I'm a lifelong runner. Achillies tendonitis always comes back.

I have chronic Achilles insertional tendonitis. I am an athlete and runner. The pain is pretty bad. I’ve picked up pickleball about a year ago and my Achilles have been aching. I can hardly walk in the morning. I went to a podiatrist, inserts, brace, massage, eccentrics and still the same. I have been doing this taping method for a week and I am not miserable after playing. It’s not magic but I am seeing a huge improvement in my post play pain. Thank you!!

There are many youtube videos showing achilles taping techniques. A big difference here is that you can do this by yourself. When you are training everyday, that is a must.

Thank you so much for making this video Jerome. I have been suffering from achilles tendonitis after playing pickleball for about a month. I followed your taping suggestion and today is the first time that I have no soreness in the achilles after playing for 3 hours!

Thank you so much, Mr. Jerome, for this incredibly helpful video! I've tried almost every treatment for my Achilles, including PRP, eccentric, and plyometric exercises, but nothing seemed to fully work. As a basketball player, dealing with Achilles pain has been a huge challenge for me. After following your taping method, today is the first day my leg is not painful at all. I’m so grateful for your guidance—it’s truly a game-changer! 🙏🏀

Thanks for sharing. At 52 years old I am having tendinitis for the first time and it's a roadblock to me staying active.
I think the tape investment is totally worth it.

Tried this for the first time yesterday felt way less pressure on my Achilles and pain the following day was halved. I’m 28 and developed Achilles tendinitis after having surgery on my ankle and years of abuse due to playing soccer my whole life. This helped a lot.

Hello, I tried putting the elastic tape, then holding it with non elastic on both sides. I can clearly say that your advice helped me big time. ! I feel like not having any pain anymore. You are a legend thank you 👍

This is an amazing solution that worked wonders for me. I'm a soccer referee, and I was sidelined for a couple weeks with an achilles flare-up. Started rehab with progressively increasing load on the achilles, which is showing good results. But this taping technique enabled me to get back out and work as a referee with confidence much sooner than I would have if I waited until my rehab completed.

I've been limping every day for the last 2 months! Mornings and evenings! During the lunch time the foot kind of warmed up and wasn't as exhasted so I was able to walk normally. I'm gonna buy the tape tomorrow - I need a solution. Thank you

Try:
1) This man's taping method.
2) Gradual strength training for calves - many videos on this, not just bouncing through calf raises.
3) Find Kneesovertoes guy on youtube -- strengthen knees and posterior chain muscles that stabilize in sports (Calf works too hard if knees are weak).
4) Walking backwards on treadmill with incline if possible - 20min per day.
5) Prioritize grassfed beef, eggs, chicken and reduce carbs. This helps muscles and tendons recover and helps you drop weight that puts more stress on joints. Reduce added sugar to near zero if possible.

okay i’ve struggled with this for less years than most of you but all i did was roll my ankle skateboarding and didn’t let it heal. worst mistake of my life if i had one with that’s what i would undo even taking a step of a curb would make my foot hurt the next day and this is the best streak ive been on in years so i’m really hopin this will help me get to the next level of being able to do calf raise rehab without the fear of messing it up all over again
