2024 Volkswagen Tiguan review // A compact SUV that handles well.

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV. The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan! We haven’t reviewed this model for quite some time, it’s nice to get it back, it’s a very popular choice in the Volkswagen lineup.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD in Canada. In the US, FWD and AWD options are available. You can put regular fuel in the Tiguan.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV is quite unique because it has an optional small third row offering on every trim in Canada for $800 CAD. In the US, the third row is standard on FWD models, it is not available on AWD models.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is a spacious compact SUV and has a competitive price point in this class. In Canada, it starts at $37,220 CAD, Comfortline $41,220 CAD, Comfortline R-Line Black $44,520 CAD and Highline R-Line $48,220 CAD (our test model). Pricing includes, Freight, PDI and Fees.
In the US, (MSRP) S FWD/AWD $28,880 USD/$30,380 USD, SE FWD/AWD $31,580 USD/$33,080 USD, SE R-Line Black FWD/AWD $34,580 USD/$36,080 USD and
SEL R-Line AWD $38,880 USD.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan fuel economy is8L/100 km, 29 MPG highway and 10.6L/100 km, 22 MPG city.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan gets some good standard features but I feel the Comfortline or SE model offers the most value. It gets you those extra key features like a power tailgate, the larger 8” touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, a power driver’s seat and leatherette upholstery. I also like that you can add the panoramic sunroof to this trim for $1500 CAD/$1200 US.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan base model comes standard with a 6.5” touchscreen, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, an 8” digital driver display, 6-speaker audio system, cloth upholstery, manual front seats with height adjustment, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a manual liftgate and Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive. In Canada, you can add a package to the base trim to get the larger touchscreen. In the US, the heated steering wheel is only available on the top trim.

We're currently on a two-week road trip in the maritimes with our 2024 Trendline Tiggy. No fuss, no muss. Just turned over 8000 km. So far, very pleased.

I have little interest in most of the cars reviewed here but don’t miss a one because of the presentation, logical insights, and always entertaining comments.. A&Z keep up the good work.

Totally agree with your assessment about the differences in design philosophy between VW/Audi vs the Koreans. Kia/Hyundai remind me of fast fashion - changing things up at every turn to maintain interest whereas VW/Audi produce the more timeless, classic designs. Pros and cons to both approaches.

Andrea, I must say that you have come a long way since your first appearance on the Motormouth channel. I believe the episode dropped on April 13th, 2016 and Zach brought (The Boss) to give her impression of the 2016 Range Rover Sport. You've since developed the poise and presence of Diane Sawyer in her prime! As for you Zach, I'm impressed with how you leveraged the Motormouth character(annoying car salesman)that you created over 20 years ago and turned it into the best automotive YouTube channel. Good for you both!

I leased a 2024 VW Taos in Nov ‘23. After taking this vehicle on a 4000km road trip to the US, I was VERY disappointed with the Taos. The seats were way too firm, the transmission was extremely jerky and I really missed the automatic tailgate. So, after six months, I just upgraded to the 2024 VW Tiguan Highline R-Line. What a pleasant change from the Taos. Reminds me of my 2016 Passat. Very comfortable, well equipped and extremely spacious. Love the Tiguan..!

A shout out to the Westfalia! 😁👋
edit: as an owner of multiple VWs over the years my best advice is to do your oil changes at 8000kms! It will serve you well and it will hugely benefit future owners.

I am with Andrea, hate fake exhaust tips to the point that it does have a very negative effect on buying decision.

My Wife replaced her Dodge Magnum with a 2012 VW Jetta Highline with every option (sat/nag), including that Fender sound system. I think or not have purchased that car without that sound system. We both love it. It makes a world of difference, when compared to both base (4 speakers) and regular Highline (6 speakers). It brought the speaker count up to Nine, including an amazing subwoofer (although it takes away some boot space). This car has NOT been problem free, especially when compared to Toyota Honda… and we certainly didn’t expect to have it for years… BUT, we absolutely love it. Its now around 250, 000kms and I’ve yet to come across something worth replacing it with. The seats take every sort of beating (kids/dogs/yard sale deals), it has had super heavy loads on it’s roof (bar type cargo carrier), it has been great with light trailering and… it is just nice to drive. German motorcars (I have/have had others) are just… different, in a good way. Reliability… not so much. But they are definitely more engaging to drive. Personally I love them. Though for friends and Family… get a Toyota (or a Honda). Thanks for the video.

Waiting for the 2025 new version in the R. I like the 2024 (looks more European to me and I like that), but too close to having access to the 2025. My Jetta has fender audio- VERY GOOD stereo and one of the best I have ever had stock in a vehicle. I am on my second VW- never had any issues reliability wise.

We have had four Tiguans over the years. A ‘16 (front wheel drive six speed), ‘18 New style, ‘23 Comfortline R, and my old ‘14 Comfortline, oh and all are AWD. We love them. Very comfortable, really good mileage, literally no issues with our new ones re 18 and 23. Done some big trips and 25, 000 kms in the 23 already. A proper transmission is awesome. We drive the Rogue and a few others and really, it was an easy decision! Just my opinion but also the best looking SUV in this segment by far!

I would like proper pipes out the back as commented on here. The infotainment is very good in the Comfortline and I hope the dash does not go the root of the GTI re stuck on the dash! Comfortline is absolutely the way to go! BTW, also very good in snow!

I had a 2012 VW CC back when it was new, in the Middle East. Was an absolute looker of a car, but just horrendous reliability. Regular dealer visits, and even let us stranded in the middle of the road once - in 46 degree (Celsius) summer heat! Had all maintenance done per the book, but all the issues were despite that.
Switched to a Lexus after and haven't gone back. The peace of owning a reliable car CANNOT be beat.

Thanks for the honest and detailed reviews! Love your show!! Esp. the coffee and cars segments!

I like vehicle. Exterior design is classic. I rather have either 10 or 12 inch touchscreen. Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️👍🏻👍🏻

I have 2017 Tiguan the older smaller model made in Germany and I have not have any issues. Maintenance is pricey like all Europe cars. Fun to drive on mountain roads 200 hp gives it really sport feel. Looking at replacing it in 2 years maybe ID4 once it has reverse charging. Great channel!

The thing about the Tiguan is you just have to forget what the numbers say. 184 hp doesn’t tell the whole story, it feels peppy, it is fun like Andrea says and it does everything pretty well.

I leased the 22 Tiguan after seeing your video in 2022 and I love it. My lease coming to an end, should I hold to it or should I upgrade to Atlas Cross Sport?

I have the 2022 Tiguan. I got it after my 2019 was wrecked. I got the highest trim which it SEL. It’s been okay but I hate the infotainment system. I had it replaced last year and it still has the same issues of either not working or cutting out. Also I hate the weird hesitation when you step on the gas.
