Performing the deadlift with two dumbbells requires a deeper setup position than the traditional barbell deadlift. Ensuring the dumbbells do not swing away from the body requires tension and control from the musculature of the upper back. As with many of the major lifts, learning to execute this movement well, regardless of the equipment used, will aid in developing well-rounded capacity.

Think I'm probably going stick with a hex bar for deadlifts. I bought some moulds for concrete plates. I can also use it for shrugs and shoulder presses!

If it is more comfortable, you can also put the dumbbells between your legs instead of outside your legs. I find that I can achieve better bracing and tension with the dumbbells between my legs.

I don't know.... There's something just not right about deadlifting with dumbbells. I'm sure it feels weird.

This model and video aren't very good, there's too much bending at the knee instead of hinging at the hip. This is more of a deadlift/squat hybrid instead of a true deadlift.
