Fun Fact: John Calvin didn't believe in pre-faith regeneration that is being pushed by modern Calvinists. "we are renewed [regenerated] by faith"

"But all are not agreed as to the way in which the life of Christ comes to us. Some understand it thus: "as by believing we receive the Spirit, who regenerates us in order to justification, by that very regeneration we obtain salvation." We are born a natural man, dead spiritually. God has to regenerate a person before they believe because the natural man wants nothing to do with God:

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
