Media Diet: PHONE 📱
1-Time limit to 20 min a days (engaging and consuming bad news) set alarm
2-Keep phone 10 feet away during the day (off the night stand at night)
3-Create a boundary (digital boundary) ie. what you consume

Hope this helps 🙏🏼

Nice to hear that I’m not insane for not being on my phone when I have down time! I’m always trying to be present. Let’s give our brains a moment so we can experience life the way we’re supposed to ❤

I got rid of social media because of this. I don’t need to know all the bad things going on in all the world the time. Especially since there is nothing I can do about it. We aren’t meant to take all that in.

Wow, I didn’t realize how important the “no video games on weekdays” rule was as a kid. It seems like people really have a difficult time regulating this stuff in their life.

I have been on this journey to reduce my phone use for about 8 years now.... It's a constant up and down rollercoaster. I'm getting better and better but my brain still itches for that distraction.

The bit about stress and then consuming loads of content has really hit home

We deleted all social media years ago. Only have a bit of YouTube. Don't have a TV licence or viewing package. Haven't bought a newspaper for 20+ years. Don't vote and didn't complete the census. Thought it would be strange/difficult but after a month it felt free. These things happened over the course of time. I'm 61 now and spend most of our time residing on an island in the Atlantic. Life's good. Unknowingly over time I sort of became more stoic. After several bad times throughout my life things started to not bother me and I realised how much stuff I didn't need. Everyone has problems going on. What matters is how you deal with them.

Feeling like a unicorn hearing all this! Since 2010, when I was 29 years old, though I wake before dawn, I don't even turn on my phone until 11 or so am, I don't check it unless it rings, and I turn it off at 6 pm. Nightstand? My phone stays in the living room, no way I let it enter my bedroom even! 😂 What made me do this almost 15 years ago was Nicholas Carr's book The Shallows. Goodluck everyone, protect your brain! Ooh, and, I am on zero social media. None. Nada. 😊

After watching this short clip it brought me to the reality of just how much I use/depend on my phone. I could relate to “popcorn” brain. I take on the problems “of the World around me.” It has at times left me with a feeling of helplessness. I need to do better with what I’m choosing to spend my time watching. Great short clip .. right to the point. I took in what applied and made sense to me. Threw out what didn’t …

Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.

Thank you for acknowledging how current conflicts affects our well-being and mentioning wars in the first place

I achieved this by removing all social media apps and news apps from phone. If I want to do something on here I have to open my laptop, like when I work, so I make an active choice to engage with these apps

I was listening to this and realised I was scrolling for the next fix at the same time! 🤯
I only watch positive things and never during the night. But I’m still far too dependent on my phone, I used to love silence now I’m unable to tolerate it. Audiobooks or music if I’m not on the phone. I got rid of my tv 14 years ago as I was addicted to it. I’m watching this to arm myself to give this up!
I love to read but I’m crocheting a lot and I can listen or watch while doing that. What to do???

First thing I do when I wake up is to thank God for waking me up and blessing me with a brand new day then I do my Bible study and acknowledge the presence of God in my life..that's a good start to the day and decreasing the risk of depression etc. I need to get off some grroup chats. Too many on my phone. This pinning from my phone is not good. I just put them in archive when they ping.

I realise that I have "popcorn brain" but I've managed to use it in a useful way. I'm studying Japanese so I use that time (waiting line, on the London underground commute etc) to allow myself to be distracted in another language to improve my listening.

I think the idea of, as of now, as humans, we will be glued to our phones is inevitable. But what content you consume can be used for good.

If you're not learning a language like me, then listen to positive videos like this or motivational ones. We can't stop what we are/have become regarding our relationship with technology because I'm typing this on my break right now, but you can choose what content and usage of said technology and content.

Grayscale your phone in settings, Well-being/bedtime section. By draining the colour on your screens, apps, photos, videos, the real world looks more stimulating and appealing. Try it.

I no longer let myself watch videos on my phone. I can only watch them on my computer. I started this a few months ago and this has been a game-changer for me. Clearly, I still watch videos but I fixed my sleep problem that has been very aggravating for the past few years. Sure every now and then I struggle with sleep, but not every night. I guess all that stimulation was too much. Who knew keeping myself from watching videos late at night, by not having them easy access on my phone would make such a difference. It's almost embarrassing how much better things have been.

Very true about ptsd. The Dubai floods have been bothering me for days. I’m always thinking about it.
