What Anakin Told Sidious Right Before Obi-Wan Fought Him (NOT IN MOVIE)

In Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, there was a moment after Anakin defeated the Separatists during Order 66 on Mustafar, where he speaks to Sidious. In the movie we NEVER saw this scene but in the novel Palpatine warns him of imminent danger! He knows Obi-Wan is coming (or someone) and warns Anakin. I think this warning did more trouble than good. I think once Anakin saw it was Obi-Wan behind Padme, he was even more furious that Palpatine would even insinuate he is a danger to him. It hits his nerves even more that everyone constantly doubts him, in my opinion.

What do you think about this scene in the novel?

Grab a copy of Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover. It is amazing and even better than the movie.

Actually I think “be mindful” is very appropriate for Palpatine. The sith have only survived because of discretion. Being aware of those around them. Careful planning and execution. Even in rage, pain, or some other thing that pushes them onward they had to be mindful if they were to survive.

Not the first time Sidious used the phrase, though.

“This is an unexpected move for her. It’s too aggressive... Lord Maul, BE MINDFUL. Let them make the first move.”

Not sure there’s really a parallel between Qui-Gon and Sidious saying it to Anakin, unless Sidious was deliberately drawing on his adoration of the Jedi Master. That would be counter-intuitive at that point, though. You have to remember, Sidious is trying to drive Anakin toward rage and hatred, to purge “Anakin Skywalker” out of him so there’s nothing left but Darth Vader. Sidious suddenly trying to bring out his sentimental side doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, unless he’s trying to get Anakin think that he cares for him like Qui-Gon did. But then that drives the question, did Qui-Gon genuinely care for Anakin, or was he simply driven by prophecy and determined that the kid be trained in the ways of the Force?

So Palpatine was directly aware of Obi-Wan’s presence (at least, to some extent).

And like you said, this definitely adds a new layer of depth to Vader’s arrogance in his duel against Kenobi.

Sidious did say "Lord Maul. *Be Mindful* . Let them make the first move."

The book is really good, as novelizations go. Sidious always feared a duel with Yoda, and the best he could hope was to survive it.

Have you ever done a video on if Anakin/ Darth Vader ever found out that Padme didn’t betray him on Mustafar because he was under the impression Padme bought Obi-Wan to Mustafar to kill him.

Darth Sidious also told Darth Maul to “be mindful” before the Battle of Naboo in Episode I.

I’m starting to think that Sidious means it as a jinx to his apprentices. Darth Maul got his legs cut off and Darth Vader ended up in a life support suit after being told to “be mindful.” 🤷🏽‍♂️

This also shows why he was so ANGRY when Obi-wan shows up on the ship. Ah, "this" is the danger Sidious spoke of and it probably triggered the sequence of events where he force-chokes Padme...and the dark side forever dominated his destiny. It also shows why Sidious was always "disappointed" in Anakin...as powerful as he was...he relied too much on brawn (like Maul) and wasn't a worthy successor to the insidious Sidious

Plus I think the other disadvantage Anakin had fighting Obi-Wan this time was that he loved him as a brother. Deep down he loved him. He grew up with him, fought besides him and everything. Even before the duel, he was kind of offering him a way to join him. He also listened when Obi Wan told him to let go of the choke, which is a sign that despite his insanity, he respected Obi Wan enough to listen. Yes that goes against the Sith rule of two but clearly at the beginning he was looking for a peaceful way out. And he also lacked the Sith yellow eyes of hatred until after Obi Wan had cut him down.

I imagine once Palpatine ended the call, he said to himself "That idiot's gonna get himself killed."

"Anakin, you may be in danger... It's in the script."

So that’s why Kenobi said “Don’t try it” before Anakin lunged at him. Anakin was trying to use the same move as Kenobi used on Darth Maul. Interesting 🤔

I like how you manage to keep finding little things like this to talk about, the star wars universe truly is vast. I like having that insight into Anakin's thought process

"Be Mindful" - If everything is connected as you say, then I think it was the Force's way of manipulating Anakin into being arrogant. Taunting him. Anakin was destined by the Force to be crippled, and be turned into Darth Vader with the suit.

It had to manipulate events so that Anakin would be arrogant against Obi Wan.

Darth Vader had developed an attitude that he could handle anything that came his way himself.

Always wanted to read some of the Star Wars novels but its overwhelming, there's so many of them I wouldn't even know where to begin. Any suggestions which book/s to start with?

Sidious also told Maul to be mindful during the battle of Naboo
