Today we’re going to talk about dry fasting, and I’m going to share with you my opinion about it. There are a lot of benefits of fasting, but is one type of fasting better? Let’s look at dry vs. wet fasting.

What is dry fasting?
Dry fasting is fasting (not eating) without any water or liquids of any kind.

What is water fasting?
Water fasting is when you’re fasting, but you’re drinking water.

There are also two types of dry fasting:

Soft dry fasting:
This is when you’re allowed to use water when you brush your teeth or take a shower.

Hard dry fasting:
This is when you do not expose any part of your body to water at all.

The body can typically only go around three days without water. But, your body will go a lot longer if you’re just restricting food and not water because you still have a fat reserve to live off of.

There is no research or studies comparing dry fasting and wet fasting side by side. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad thing or that you won’t get amazing results. In theory, dry fasting may work well for some people for one day. If you wanted to try dry fasting, I wouldn’t go longer than one day. Then, you can compare a day of doing a dry fast and a day of doing a wet fast and see what works best for you.

Thanks for watching! There isn’t enough data for me to form a solid opinion on dry fasting. Consider trying both water fasting and dry fasting (for one day) and see what works best for you.

"I just don´t have enough data to form a solid opinion." There you go, if everybody could admit that, the world would be a better place. Respect to you, sir.

Dr. Berg has an amazing intellectual honesty and integrity! When he knows, he say I know; and when he doesn't know, he doesn't know. That may seem simple, and it's simple, but it's also very rare nowadays, were everybody thinks it is a weakness (not knowing everything).

For me, dry fast is much easier than wet fast because even 1 sip of water will wake up all my hungry hormones, lol.

As a Christian, my longest water fast was 16 days and longest dry fast was 7 days. So, as someone who has experienced both, I can definitely say that dry fasting is way easier and more powerful than water fasting!

There’s actually a large body of research on dry fasting; unfortunately it’s mostly in Russian. Most people can dry fast much longer than 3 days; research “metabolic water”. The body actually creates its own water from the stored fat and the oxygen you breathe. It’s a fascinating concept.

I'm about to start a 3 day dry fast tomorrow. Drinking my final cup of tea now - after having a lot of fruit and water today. Not planning anything high energy - but just a lot of rest and relaxation and prayer! I would love to let you know how it goes for me! I'll try to document as much as I can! :)

EDIT: someone just liked this comment which reminded me that I needed to update!

it was amazing. so much easier than wet fasting as other people have said. first day was not hard at all. second day was also fairly easy. I did have wild dreams about food hahahaha... like actual dreams while I slept ... and psychologically...I felt like I wanted to snack, but I wasn't actually hungry.

this three day fast was actually right before a detox that I try to do every six months... so on the final day, I needed to go get food for the detox.

this involved driving and shopping for about 6 hours. (hahaha I live rurally and it takes 90 minutes for me to get to the grocery store lol)

for the previous two days, I stayed home and relaxed and meditated and prayed a lot. work is from.home also... so I didn't really exert too much energy.

on the third day, after coming home from that morning of shopping. I did feel hungry and was a bit more tired than usual. not drained by any means...but I could tell that my body was affected by the activity.

that night, I ended the fast and broke it with a plate of fruit

(the fast was from Wednesday at sundown to Saturday at sundown)

that food was so delicious. heehehe

I definitely had a new appreciation for eating. it sounds funny but chewing and tasting and relishing and appreciating food....was wonderful!

all in all, I so wish more people would research and try this for themselves. I think it's something that would truly surprise people....what the body is capable of handling...

no, not just handling...but excelling!

my mind was so clear. even my vision became clearer! I had a lot of energy...as a matter of fact, on the second night - I woke up in the middle of the night with tons of energy.. lol

interestingly enough, after breaking my fast, about 2 hours after the "fruit feast" I got so sleepy....it was so nice.

not my form of exhaustion, but almost like my body was just thinking me for a good, successful fast and time to sleep peacefully and deep

was so very wonderful!

here is the comment for you @Dr. Eric Berg DS

I've done a 4-and-a-half day hard dry fast. My friend has done longer. Another friend of mine regularly does 1-3 day hard dry fasts. None of us will bother with water fasts anymore; dry fasting is so much easier and you notice good results much quicker.

I have done both a 7 day water fast and a 7 day dry fast. I found that a 7 day dry fast was much easier for me. I felt amazing when I was done.

I did a 4 day soft dry fast and continued my normal life. I was sluggish, but fine overall. Cole Robinson has done a 7 day hard dry fast at 170 pounds. The 3 day without water rule is a myth. Humans are incredibly resilient.

I do fast dry and wet, and I can definitely tell you that dry fasting gives you results three times faster than wet fasting, so you don't need to do it for long time.

Dry fasting gives the number one organ of elimination (the kidneys) a break. Which allows it to purge/eliminate more toxins. From my experience of doing both water and dry fasting, I do feel better on Dry.

I'm from Kazakhstan, next to Russia. Dry fasting is familiar in Russian speaking countries. I fast dry a lot for 3-4 days without water and without contacting any water to body. Dr Berg, thank you so much for your all of the tips,

A 2 minute video that he considers “long winded” and his admission of not enough data to form an opinion is all the more reason to respect this man.

Dr. Berg is humble and honest. The world would be a better place if more people (including myself) observed without giving their opinion!

I love the way Dr Eric’s videos are portrayed, but I love even more how his style has been unchanged (slightly) over the past few years.

I do a dry fast from 9pm to 2pm the next day. I have also tried fasting while drinking plenty of water. I’d say the only difference is the times you go to the restroom and hunger. I’ve also weighed myself and I’d say that the results are the same. Typically with my Fasts and keto diet regimen I lose about .2-1lb a day depending if I had time to exercise or not.

Edit: By the way I’ve lost 74 lbs doing this in 5 months! Started Sep 25 hit 5 month mark Feb 25.
