Dry socket also known as ALVEOLAR OSTEITIS.
It mostly affects mandibular third molar(wisdom teeth) after tooth extraction.
Dry socket(alveolar osteitis) causes severe throbbing pain 3-5 days after extraction.
In dry socket (alveolar osteitis) blood clot is lost thus exposing bone.
smoking is one of the risk factor for dry socket.
Alvogyl dressing can be placed into the socket after irrigation with normal saline or chlorhexidine.
