If dry socket happens this easily or at all, why after all these years havent Dentists come up with a solution to prevent it completely??

I was so scared that I would get dry socket after getting 2 teeth pulled, I kept checking the areas to see if I still had the blood clots, I did spit a little and drank from a straw, when I woke up the next day I seen that the clots wasn’t red it looked like mold, 3 days later I went to the dentist and he looked at the mold looking blood clots and said my gums were healing good. I was so happy.

Thanks for this. Have been super worried about developing dry socket and this is the first video I’ve seen saying it’s normal for the pain to increase on day 4 like mine has.

Hello Everyone am back after 2 weeks and this goes to everyone who is currently in pain and having bad odour from your mouth, PLEASE! go to the doctor ! It turns out my extracted tooth 🦷 has 3 roots instead of two, this caused a bigger hole after it was removed which trapped food and caused infection in the fifth day, now after the food debris were removed and the area irrigated I am now totally healed and today I finally ate my favorite rice and chicken 🍗, so anyone who is currently in pain should not worry, it will pass, love you all 💚

Dry socket pain IS WORSE then any the toothache you saw the dentist for.

I just had a single wisdom tooth pulled due to the pain it was causing. But I'm 13 weeks 2 days pregnant so I had it done fully awake, with no anesthesia. It was the worst experience of my life, without a doubt. I had #32 pulled and I've been paranoid about dry socket. This was definitely helpful. I had apple sauce and oatmeal for breakfast. Working on a chicken soup for dinner.

I have something hanging out of my socket - either food or the blood clot.

I don't feel any pain, *just loads of anxiety*

Dry socket will not interfere with healing.
It just hurts like hell. Even if you leave it alone it will heal nicely, maybe it will take a bit longer though and the pain will last longer but your body will do its job.
Infection you should be worried about.
Anyways if you experiemce severe pain anywhere from day 2 to 5, not just increased pain, that is normal but severe pain go see your doc to, at least, exclude infection

I just had dry socket last week. I had my tooth pulled on Thursday and was very careful with eating soft food and taking little sips of water. Friday was fine but woke up at 4 am with extreme pain. Got up and put an ice pack against my cheek and sat there until my husband got up and then asked him to put the clove oil I had on a q-tip and gently put some in the socket. It only took about 5 minutes to reduce the pain by half. I had him do this three times that day and then 3 more on Sunday but by afternoon the pain was completely gone. My dental assistant called to ask how I was doing and I told her what happened. She said I could have called the office and my dentist would have come in and packed with something they have to stop the pain but it has the same ingredient that is on clove oil, it's called eugenol. So I saved alot of money by having clove oil at my house and treating myself as I am sure if the dentist would have come in on a Saturdy the charge would have been quite a bit.

Thank you. Thought I was developing a dry socket. (On day 4 currently). It's a manageable throb. Reliving to hear peak inflammation on day 3/4.

I left the initial gaze in for way too long, and I believe that’s what prevented the clot. Severe pain hasn’t started yet. The dentist is closed until Tuesday. So I have to wait.

Was waiting for the “how to treat it” part as I sit here with dry socket 😭 Please consider changing to title to “how to avoid it”. I went to my dentist who irrigated it, gave me prescription mouthwash and told me to keep taking ibuprofen but I literally can’t function.

I had all my upper teeth pulled at the same time due to health problems that caused all the teeth to be loose and so I was getting dentures. Anyhow I went to aspen dental and ended up with an entire mouth full of dry sockets. It was some of the worst pain i have ever had and I learned how the body works and repairs itself. Scientificly it was the coolest thing I have ever experienced. If anyone has experienced the rebuilding of their mouth I would love to have a chat.

i suffered from dry socket after a particularly traumatic tooth extraction which took over an hour to extract after the dentist broke the tooth she was extracting in half. Dry socket was the most excruciating pain i have ever felt in my life and reduced me to tears. i had to go back and get the site packed with gauze which was a painful process in itself but at least it gave immediate relief. After further packing over the course of the next week or so my pain finally subsided and my extraction site finally started healing normally. I dreaded having any further extractions after this experience but had to have another extraction a few years later and even though i followed all the rules i still got another dry socket although not as severe as my previous one. Still needed to go back and get it packed again a few days after the extraction though. Now i dread having to have extractions as it seems i am particularly prone to dry socket and from my personal experience it is the most extreme pain anyone can have in their mouth.
