How to tell if your goldfish is male or female

This is the only guide you'll ever need to determine whether your goldfish is a male or female. Keep in mind that none of these characteristics will 100% determine the sex, but if you look for multiple characteristics and see them in the same fish, you can usually be correct. Usually I just gently press the belly, near the back of my Ranchu. If it's a little hard, and has that bone down the center, it's a male. If it's soft, and squishy on the sides, that's where the egg sacs (or ovaries) are, and it's a female.
