"*Slightly* better choice for the planet?" Meat, dairy and egg production cause more greenhouse gasses than all of transportation combined! That is why the expert panel assigned by the UN urged mankind to switch to a plant based diet ASAP. You even documented the huge advantage of vegan diets to the environment! You don't have to choose between avoiding air transportation and eating a vegan diet. Otherwise, good video!

Is it possible that the health benefits derived from the plant based diets are mainly from eliminating processed and low quality foods? Especially given how many people in the West consume these foods and the "epidemic" of metabolic syndrome?

I'm with you on whole foods. I need to disagree on grains though. I went this route a couple of years ago and ended up fatter than ever. IF and a moderate keto-based diet have been particularly effective for me both physically and mentally--no more mood swings, down almost 50 lbs. in 6 months, and I was able to come off of my blood pressure meds.

Are Beans/Tomatoes in a can/jar acceptable? What about frozen vegetables or oil free oatmilk from a package?

Animal products are higher in calories? Rly? 100g of meat is 100kcal, 100g of grains or legumes is ~370kcal.
