They are designed to be assembled as easily as possible and sold new.
There can't be any other reason for the stupid things that have to be done to make straight forward repairs. They are only concerned about things being just good enough to make it through the warranty.

As others have said, engineers are instructed to design it that way to force you to bring it to the dealership where they have specialized tools and it earns Royalties for the company...

hi, I'm building a Volvo and no, you don't need to disassemble the whole thing, you have to throw off the accessory belt and just remove the fans and the lower part of the bumper and you'll have the compressor out in 1.5 hours, and it doesn't matter if it's gasoline or diesel 😉
