Engineers hate mechanics! Engineers need to properly design engines. Fuel injector rail is rusted and needs to be replaced. Clogged fuel injectors caused major engine damage. Damaged fuel injectors. Replacing rusted fuel lines.

Als considered that the engineers don’t determine the budget per car? Trust me, every engineer rather had a titanium car from top to front, rather then stainless. Sadly that’s not in the budget.
Also over-engineering parts is not what the engineer was asked.
So it all comes down to money and what the customers are willing to pay.

Engineers almost always know what they're doing, many are aware of what will and won't cause problems down the line. But the bean counters tell them what they can and can't do, plus being divided into a million teams leads to designs that get in the way of each other. All by design by the higher ups.

The engineers are very smart. They are given a schedule so that the car goes boom within a reasonable time frame for the car manufacturer.

If a car doesn't last enough, people won't buy another one from the same company.
If a car lasts too long, people won't need to buy another one from the same company. However, the company will at least get people who buy new cars just because they want new cars.


BMW probably has it down to a perfect math formula. They calculated how to make a car fun enough to drive for people to tolerate the expensive repairs. Toyotas are so boring, they have to be built to last. Otherwise there wouldn't be much of a point to keep buying them.

Well let's talk about it. Adding cost to a vehicle they only need to function correctly under warranty doesn't make much sense to upgrade. At the very least, if they could make everything easily accessible then it wouldn't be much of an issue for me

Gas doesn’t cause corrosion. In fact it stops it. No fuel in the lines does this. When your car sits for a long time you’ll also see it happen to the gas tank mostly to the parts not submerged in fuel.

Yes! I hate that crap! Why!? They also enamel coat it so when you disconnect a line, the cracked enamel can negate the oring on the other end

It’s not the lines or water in the fuel it’s the E-10 ethanol fuel!
