When the engineers give each other the “look” when they collaborate on designing cars.
They know the look

Recently I worked on an Audi for the first time. No Compression or airflow during cranking. Pulled the timing belt cover back. The timing belt was intact, but only the exhaust cam was belt driven. Pulled up a cylinder head diagram. There's a damn timing chain in the back and a belt in the front. 🤔

It's a transverse engine, it does not matter what side they put it! If they put it on the other side then the frame rail blocks it and the engine has to come out. Manufacturers usually opt between trans and block on transverse designs because its easier to remove the transmission than drop subframe/engine.

Obviously with the perfect engineering it won’t break 😂

Why are the worst people becoming engineers, designers, and architects?

Just look at a diagram for a early model Bentley Continental GT driveline. I’m currently rebuilding one…

gotta artificially inflate service hours for the dealer shops somehow...

planned obsolescence needs to be punished.

then there is one bolt that needs a specific tool that only bmw sells at 20000 for one tool

Transverse motors man... all fine and dandy when they work but a nightmare when you need to do any form of maintenance on them.

They always seem to just use the "perfect" amount of space to fit it in but never quite give you enough room to comfortably work.

If it was more accessible then it would be an easy DIY no? That there is job security engineering 😂

I'm working on a 2002 chevy trailblazer with the straight six. What I didn't know is that in order to replace the timing chain, you have to remove the oil pickup tube from the oil pump so that the timing cover can come off. Of course, that means removing the oil pan. After learning this, I found out that the engineers put a big hole through the middle of the oil pan. What's this hole for? Why, none other than the front axles. The front differential is bolted directly to the oil pan. The right front axle runs straight through it. Just crazy stupid design.

They do this so you have to take the vehicle to the dealers for all the scheduled mechanical issues
