I’ve never worked on a boat but for the cars that have this exact same set up you’re suppose to crack it then drain the oil from the pan and because you cracked it the vacuum drains the filter and when you fully unscrew it it’s fully drained

First fill the area around the filter with paper

you can punch a hole and suction the oil out with a pump. you can wedge a little water cup down in the crack so it catches most then with the filter off pull the lil cup out. also if you drain the oil before you change the filter it will be empty

Can’t you just trim the engine to adjust the angle, at least slightly?
