2019? Still on Vista? Yes.
Have I made an upgrade? No.
Do I know if I am entitled to a free update? No.
Please help.

Upgraded both my desktop and laptop from Vista to Windows 7. The process was flawless and simple. Definitely a faster startup and shutdown and a cleaner environment. Kudos to MS!

I would recommend a clean install. Best to start fresh and new with Windows 7.

I know this is old and all but I’m restoring my old Toshiba Satellite L350 Series laptop that has its hard drive die years ago. I can’t play certain games on my Windows 10 HP Pavilion G7-1310us Notebook PC so I want to go to Windows 7 on my Toshiba. I have Windows Vista Home Premium x64 installed on it and it’s un-activated, because installed that to the new hard drive to get the drivers back and did that by connecting to my own Wifi Network between my HP and Toshiba. I can’t get Windows Update to work for Vista and don’t know all updates I need from the Windows Microsoft Update Catalog online. I can’t even run thr Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor since neither Vista or Windows 7 aren’t supported. I keep getting a failure when I attempt to use my Installation Flash Drive of Windows 7 Home Premium x64-Bit. It says my hard ware isn’t compatible but it is. I had the option to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista on this machine years ago when it was working. Nothing has been changed except the new hard drive.
I need to upgrade to Windows 7 in about 20 days now because I can’t access my Windows Vista product key on the bottom of this Toshiba laptop because it’s faded.
I really need some information on how to complete this upgrade. On wired and on wifi it completes to the last steps of installing then gives that hardware error. With not doing any form of getting updates online it fails right away but I had WiFi still on and even Windows Firewall running for I have no Anti-Virus other then the built in Windows Defender.
If it wasn’t for Windows 10 not allowing me to play the games that I want to I wouldn’t be upgrading or restoring this Toshiba Satellite L350 Series Notebook PC right now.
(Note: The Toshiba Satellite L350 cannot support Windows 10 at all and even if it could I wouldn’t want to install it on there.)

next week I get my vista laptop back from repair. I think that my whole hard drive is empty. So can I upgrade windows 7 directly over vista?

@NeedHelpNetwork You can choose that. When you put the CD in, you can choose if you wanna "upgrade" or do a "custom install" if you press "upgrade", it wont delete your files, and if you press "custom install" it deletes everything so you gotta install your programs again and download your files.

@NeedHelpNetwork yes that is why you back up ur files onto an external drive which can be bought anywhere or a CDROM..

@FlawlessHitz as the guy said, if you have windows vista home premium, you'll have to upgrade to windows 7 home premium, same goes with the others, home basic to windows 7 home basic, and so on. BUT if you have say, vista home basic and you want to upgrade to windows ultimate, you'll have to clear everything you have and start again

which is why you have to transfer the files you wish to keep to a hard drive you can get at shops, then upgrading it, then transfer the files back to your PC

@DominatorsGaming if you upgrade no files will be remove but if you install using CD or dvd make sure you have a back up

2020, almost 2 decades and still windows vista. I have a lot of very importantant photos of my family, and documents. Will the in-place upgrade restore all of my documents as such?
