Tutorial: Upgrading Windows Vista to 7 to 10 Without Data Loss (a.k.a. No Clean Install Needed)

I explain why you should upgrade from Vista (Security Update support ends April 11, 2017) and show you how to upgrade to 7 cheaply with no data loss. Also I explain that you can go Windows 10 for free (if your CPU supports it).

Note: The free Windows 10 upgrade window closes on December 31, 2017... So if you’re watching this after that and still want 10... Kinguin will be your friend also for an activation key after the 7 to 10 upgrade

Hmm, I was planning to daisy-chain upgrades like this path (Windows Vista Home 32-bit to Windows 7 home 32-bit to Windows 10 Home 32-bit) - in 2016 - after reading about 32-bit. vs 64-bit - I upgraded one of our Windows Vista home 32-bit desktop computers to Windows 7 64-bit with my Windows 7 Home OEM 64-bit DVD- it is still operating fine. I guess the tip I read from a user on the tech forum who stated that the 32-bit computer will install a 64-bit OS worked fine in my scenario. Now, I have my older custom built desktop PC in a LianLi ATX case dual boot with WinXP home and Linux Ubuntu 16.04.

tried this but keep getting error code 0x80070005 because windows 7 ultimate can't create a required folder when I try to install it. googled ways to fix it and nothing's working... Can we all just agree that windows vista just should never have been made

I am desperately trying to upgrade my Vista Home Premium desktop to Windows 10. Your method makes a lot of sense to me so I thought I would follow it along with sha106b’s idea of buying the Win10 key (which you endorsed). However, all the keys listed on Kinguin (10 & 7) state that they are not usable for upgrades but can only be used for clean installs. Hrutkay mods (or anyone else), can you help me with this? I have a lot of music software and Adobe. All of it is compatible with Windows 7. So....everything should still work if I don't do a clean install? ....The reason I have not upgraded from Vista has been because I have a lot going on with my laptop..

How is it not illegal that they sell us this product, make it obsolete almost immediately, then cancel updates for our os after a few years and charge hundreds of dollars for the upgrade? This never made the news jesus

What about buying Windows 7 key from ebay instead of from Kinguin? Is there anything bad about buying a Windows 7 key from ebay? They tend to be cheaper.

Had an old Vista core 2 duo laptop from 2007. It had a radeon x2300 video card. The video in Windows 10 doesn't work at all except for basic display drivers. Windows 7 worked fine with its built in driver, and I was able to get Windows 8.1 working well with a hacked video driver.
