The Surface Go is a desktop experience, but in a lower-resolution, small body, it can be a bit small to use. The iPad features a tried-and-tested tablet-OS complete with better apps and gestures. What's your pick?

As promised, the follow up video: why the iPad is better than the Surface Go. In this video I'm comparing the 9.7" iPad Pro; the same points are true about the 2018 iPad, and the differences are even stronger for the Pro 10.5!

I don’t think Surface Go is bad and I don’t think IPad’s are bad I think it depends more on preference and capabilities that will help your everyday needs

I do lot of flipping back and forth between onenote and word on my old 8 inch windows 10 tablet and my 14" Lenovo 2 in 1. Instead of tapping on the task view button which brings up "timeline" (apps running and history) just swipe in from the left side of the screen. It's easier than tapping the button. Launching apps from the start menu is way easier than using the task bar. It's REALLY hard for people to adapt to that as windows up until the last few years conditioned everyone to launch their "important" stuff from the taskbar/dock. This is going to sound weird but use my 2 in 1 laptop in tablet mode now and this is how I multitask.

Thing I love about the iPad is that the pro apps are specifically made for it and optimised for it, not just for tons of different devices. iPad has been my only computing device now since iOS 11. Don’t miss a “full” OS really at all...

I ended up picking up the Surface Go just the other day on launch. Not one bit disappointed at all. Mind you, I have the iPad Pro 10.1 inch with wifi + LTE from T-Mobile. Also not disappointed. The one things I dislike about the iPad is that you're limited academically and work wise. I work for a home health agency that requires me to use website for work. I am unable to open attachments from the iPad's Safari app. Picking up the Surface Go that was the first thing I tested right away. I was able to open a document via our work website and voila. I was able to open my notes and view the whole attachment from the web browser. iPad, you are limited with what you have. Which leads me to my next bit...

I think a majority are forgetting, the Surface line are more geared to be used like full on PCs / laptops and not an actual tablet. Look at the UI. You have a dedicated home button and you have to slide between different screens on the iPad. The Surface Go is a full Windows OS where in... we hate to admit it but you can't use the Surface products without the keyboard. It's a laptop.

Oh. And you're comparing an iPad Pro to a Surface GO not a Surface Come on.

I dont think, that iPad is necessarily better. iPad is tablet. A bigger phone with a mobile OS for mostly easy tasks like internet, books, YouTube. Yes and some other stuff like graphics or video editing. But in basic form. Mobile OS form.
Surface is a PC in a tablet. It can be tablet for YouTube, movies, but still a real PC with a full software. It is very very versatile.
I do not think iPad is worse. Those are just two different devices. For different usage. People can choose. 😊
I personally love that option to have tablet, but in a cases when I need a laptop, I just exit tablet mode and work and also with much better keyboard. 😉😊

I think you summed it up perfectly... productivity on the go... not the best 'tablet' experience but that is why I want it... for a limited productivity addon... on the school trial I hope you test taking notes in one note... the surface pen and one note along with searchable notes are amazing for school in my opinion.

How did you make an app appear at 2:19 with a single swipe up? Not familiar with that gesture

I'm a programmer. And I can't do shit using an iPad while surface line ups are basically a pc in a tablet mode. I can use full on software while still get the portability of a tablet. It's a dream come true.

For the Surface you really need the pen or on onscreen mouse to use it without the keyboard

Can ipad run two same programs at the same time? Like run word, excel two instances?

iPad is a 1in1 device. Surface is a 3in1 tablet, laptop and full desktop if attached to mouse keyboard and 4k external monitor. How can a tablet be better than a tablet-laptop-desktop?

I found the same to be true. I rather use my laptop over the the Surface Go for computer programs, I need more screen real estate for them. In tablet mode the apps are not as good as they are on the iPad Pro. Good review!

Have you ever used a surface pro or do you own one? I never really heard of the surface go but I’ve been looking into a surface pro, I have the ipad pro 10.5 and while I love it, there’s a few things I can’t do (academic related) on it and my laptop is way too big to carry around campus

The iPad Pro is the superior companion device I’ve found. It’s the device I take everywhere with me. If I need Windows software, I have my desktop which is still pretty high end and I can upgrade it if necessary. I would struggle to recommend a Surface Go because unless you have a Windows workflow in which case the Surface Pro would be better, the iPad will handle most of your needs on the go.
