For me, it came down to the price. The Samsung had a good deal (about 130€ off) AND I got a student discount for another 80€ off. The pen and the keyboard were included.
Apple was in general about 100€ more expensive and I would've had to purchase the pen and keyboard on top.

And I absolutely love my S8.

Harris, good review. What would take it to the next level would be to actually learn the note taking apps for the s8.

I have both the Apple M1 iPad pro 12.9" and the Samsung Tab S7 FE. I'm currently trying to teach myself Python, and from my personal experience, the S7 FE is hands down better than my iPad Pro, . My reasons:

1. The SPen doesn't feel like tapping on glass when I write notes.
2. Multitasking on the S7 FE is mind blowinging better than my iPad.
3. Better integration with more devices like my Windows PC, Chromebook, TV's and my projectors.
4. Everything I needed came with the device. Pen and keyboard.
7, Goodnotes and Notibility are better apps, once you pay to unlock all the features. Samsung Notes is free and has 99% of what most students would ever need.

@HarrisCraycraft, Even though you are an Apple user, you were really objective when it came down to your opinions about the tablets on each section because your opinions were rooted in facts. It was nice to watch a video where there wasn't an evident bias towards one or the other which made it a lot easier to make a well informed decision. So, thank you for that.

I've been using Samsung Dex since 2019 on the s6. I literally cannot live without it. It has some mild limitations to an actual laptop, but for something that combines 2 in 1 for the size you can't beat it if you're a student

Edit: my s6 has been so well loved the bookcase keyboard 1/2 the keys letters are scratched off from use and there's 1 medium sized crack on screen. But I've been holding out till release of s9. For 4 years of use, all I've noticed is some slight slow down. Nothing major

Very excellent review!
I might add just a few other comments, but otherwise you hit all the important points and I liked that gave the s8 credit where it’s due. I’m looking to purchase the iPad for universal control aswell tho 😂

If you have a windows laptop I'd say go with the s8 because you can use it as another monitor or even a touch pad.

One thing you failed to mention is the ipad lack gps unless you get the cellular version, which is quite a bit more money. Also, the file manager on ios devices is severely amputated, which get painfully obvious when you want to open a file in a multiple of applications, or you want to transfer files back and fro to a computer. Those 2 reasons alone are enough for me not to buy an ipad ever again.

I have tab s8+ and ipad pro 2018. The display of Tab S8+ of course out do ipad pro 2018. I love samsung dex, shifting from one app to another feels like laptop. One thing tho, since my job leans towards writing and reading, I use more apps like microsoft word, excel and pdf reader. Tab S8+ could help me a lot if they can open multiple windows for microsoft. However, the performance of microsoft on Tab S8+ is less efficience than what iPad Pro could do. Microsoft on iPad can add references from Mendeley. My ipad covers almost 70% of my work in this case, while tab S8+ less than 50%. It's a shame tho because the samsung tab with dex could do much better. I hope Samsung can develop their own Microsoft for tablet, not rely on android's development only. For entertainment, I like using my tab, from watching to gaming.

Back in 2019, I wanted a thin and light LTE device for note taking and college work. Surface Pro X was the perfect device because full blown browser and Microsoft Office. Lockdown browser was also required to exam/quiz taking and iPad or Samsung Tab didn’t support that.

Coming from an ipad and now owning a tab s8 I can say I can do quite a bit more with my samsung tablet. First of all I love how the sPen feels compared to apple pencil. But most iportaintly, the fact that I can just connect any bluetoooth mouse and keyboard to it and actually have an actual mouse on the screen (not a glorified circle) is huge for me. I don`t draw, so I can`t say mutch about that. But just the upsides from writing experience is worth it for me. I have now fully swithed from apple ecosystem (tablet, phone, laptop) to samsung and google (s23, tab s8, chromebook) and am loving it. They all work well together. Plus samsung dex is nice to have. Just the freedom of oppurtunities I get is what I like. I do miss some apps but so far I have managed to find alternatives where the original wasn`t available. That said, if you can`t give up your iphone then perhaps stick with an ipad. I know iMessage is big in US. But here in Europe we mostly use whatsapp or fb messenger so iMessage is`t really an issue. If you just want to poke around with an android tablet then perhaps look at the 2022 edition of tab s6 lite.

Our iPad Air 2 was purchased in 2014. Although it is receiving iPad OS updates each update is asking for more power thus the hardware as expected is struggling. Sometimes touch does not work very well thus needing a reboot, cold boot takes 0:45 seconds, as apps are updated, they require more processing power. Often working with multiple apps or a browser having numerous tabs open, hardware takes a hit we did not experience years ago.

Yes, it is outstanding Apple provides long support, yet the extended length of time may not be worth using devices that long. Technology changes at lightspeed thus four-year support cycle is very acceptable. By the four-year mark, many folks would require a change in devices. If after four years the device functions to your liking keep it, use it, enjoy it, however it will be time for a upgrade.

I just want something that is wonderful to write stories on and is easy on the eyes. And allows me to reference the source material. I've looked at e ink readers but there the same price and do less. I just like the writing experience, for me it's more creative and productive and feels less like work.

Also, harsh comments guys, it's a great and fair comparison.
