Unfortunately, while almost never diagnosed, vitamin D deficiency affects over half of the population and has been linked to many cancers, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression, fibromyalgia, chronic muscle pain, bone loss, and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis. Vitamin D is almost totally absent from our food supply, and vitamin D deficiencies are the hidden cause of so much suffering—yet it is so easy to treat.

In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I talk about vitamin D deficiency, share my top strategies for optimal sun safety this summer, and much more.

This episode is brought to you by Rupa University and AG1.

My vitamin D was an 8, ten years ago, needless to say I felt like death. Went to a functional medicine Dr. and now it's a 95, it truly is a game changer with how you feel!

I love this advice! Ever since I cut starchy carbs, gave up industrial seed oils and sugar, i never get a sunburn anymore-- and i'm outside more than ever. I also don't use chemical sunscreens. I make it a point to get some sun everyday-- including a walk at sunrise and sunset to help set my circadian rhythms.

I grew up on an island. Sun exposure, dark tans, fish fresh from the salt water, all the norm. Several of us got the thick wrinkly skin but no skin cancer. It wasn't until all the fancy sun blocks came out that we saw the cancers popping up.
A should mention all the fresh blueberries and blackberries that were crazy wild where ever we went.

My husband and daughter are healthy and get sun. Their vitamin D level is 55.
My vitamin D level was 15 in January. I started on vitamin D 3, 5, 000 iu on Wednesday and Sunday in March. In June my level was 43.
The endocrinologist said keep it there and only take 1, 000 iu a day to maintain. 😂
I will continue to take it twice a week until I reach in the 70-100.
I'm going to see an naturopathic MD in August for a second opinion.

I do 20 minute Sun sessions starting when the sun is above 30° In the sky. In Southern New Jersey this is around January 25th. Yes, I’ll sit out with my shirt off surrounded by a Parka. I will continue 20 minute Sun sessions all through until mid-October. I have not been sick for years now.

Great video! A good general goal is 50-100, which increases to 70-100 if osteopenia/osteoporosis is present … be sure to include vit K2 (ideally MK-7), since it helps the calcium to be absorbed into the bones (and some studies suggest this combo will help to decrease the risk/build-up of arterial calcification)… it’s easy to find D3 w/ K2 together in 1 capsule

Last time I was checked, my level was 88. I rarely use sunscreen and live in New Mexico where you can be outdoors almost year round. 😎😎😎

Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices. Fasting should be investigated as a treatment for disease.
