Not losing weight on a carnivore diet? Here’s why

There are many reasons you aren't losing weight on any diet, especially a carnivore diet.

Here are four important things to keep in mind for your weight loss efforts.

Here are four big principles to answer this question:

You are still eating a ton of calories
As much as I disdain the "if it fits your macros" calories in and out dogma, there is a point where you can still eat TOO MUCH energy—calories from carbs and fat.

The beautiful thing about the carnivore diet is how easy it is to listen to your body when you are optimizing protein and eating nutrient-rich animal foods.

Compare this to eating a diet heavy in plant-based carbs, and you know exactly how hard it is to get to satiety and how hard it is to know when you've eaten enough food.

Quick tips to control your calorie (energy) intake:

Drink a full glass of water with a dash of pink salt before each meal - support the show here
Eat protein first and add more protein than you already have (probably)
Eat slow
Use intermittent fasting - then figure out your body's preferred feeding times and meal sizes
You may be eating too frequently.
Have you tried intermittent fasting, or are you still eating consistently, or worse, snacking?

I get it, food is fun. You want to eat it. Your biology has programmed you to eat it and enjoy it, especially if it's tasty.

These are all environmental cues that kept our ancestors alive.

Today, though, we need the opposite response to the environment. We need to AVOID eating often and to suppress cravings. This is because we live in a food-abundant environment and no longer in a food-scarce environment.

Think about it: if you are fasting and you know that and you walk by the kitchen or pantry, you have an easy gue in your mind to not eat.

Many times the desire to snack comes through boredom or not really thinking about it. Fasting is the perfect way to break this food spell.

Lifestyle factors

Sleep: get 8 hours a night in a super dark room. Don't use devices before bed. Get orange glow bulbs. Etc. Protect your sleep at all costs

Stress: This is a huge one. If you find yourself complaining, getting angry, yelling, and otherwise feeling discontent, GET THIS FIXED.

Nature: Are you spending most of your days indoors? FIX THIS. Get outside, get sunlight, listen to nature, take walks, disconnect, turn your phone off, etc.

I’m at the end of my first week of carnivore and I gained 2lbs. It was a downer given that I’m a 235lbs woman at 5’7. What I will say is that in just one week I have zero desire to snack. I can be hungry for hours and not care at all. I only think about meat, goat cheese, salt, butter, and bone broth. It’s the best thing ever!!!!

I struggled for years with my weight on various diets, cut out caffeine and it all just fell off. Too much cortisol.

Amen! I really needed this video! I’m 62 and obese, with multiple autoimmune syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and stage 3B CKD. I started Carnivore almost 6 weeks ago. Have been feeling so much better, my blood sugar is getting better and better, my blood pressure actually became too low, was able to lower my meds for both, I now have the energy to work out on my elliptical and do some light weightlifting! Gone from 294 to 268! Still, I stalled last week and was a little frustrated. Watching your video reminded me of my progress so far, and how I am feeling. Also to think of this as a life change rather than just focusing on weight loss! I might have to watch this video every once in awhile to remind me of staying in balance. Thanks much!

Thanks for this video. I agree with the ideas. We need to change our lives to change our health then weight loss will follow but weight loss shouldn’t be the main goal.💕

I've been carnivore 6 months and believe my weight gain is caused by medication. Something not acknowledged on this list, as I have nailed these things.

I’m 70 mostly on carnivore but seem to trip myself up, and one I feel I’m losing a bit I eat pasta, and if I don’t lose any weight I want to eat pasta ... gotta keep straight, and stop sabotaging myself ..❤ Thankyou for the encouragement

I don't know if you'll ever see this Colin, but I'm 5 months in carnivore. I've been eating the same way/things cause it's easy & I love it. OMAD (23:1) sometimes 2MAD, beef, eggs, sardines, Braunshwieger, butter, sometimes bacon & sausage, salt, & water. Hwc in my coffee once in awhile. I don't snack & I haven't cheated (too satiated) I workout 3x a week (lifting & HIIT) here's my problem: I lost 13 lbs, the bloat, the hot flashes, & the Graves disease within 3 months. For the last 2 months all of those things are back (except for the Graves thankfully) & I'm wondering if you can see what I'm doing wrong? I'm so discouraged. Any advice would be so appreciated....

Recent major surgery, issues with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drug caused diverticulitis and GFR 28! I have been fasting to relieve my inflammation and my kidneys! Made prime rib and now I am dealing with constipation! Urgh! The suffering is real from the side effects from antibotic and Advil! No more meds for a week...hard to eat, poop and sleep! 🦁😞🦁😳

Ive not lost 1kg on this eating plan. Fasting, no snacks, only eating untill Im full only eating at 12am, drinking water etc etc etc … nothing, nada …

My maintenance is around 2000 and unfortunately my appetite has never matched that! Eating until Im satisfied means eating 3000. So everytime I cut down to 1500 even just eating red meat is a struggle.
