Let me tell you why this affirmation is not an excuse to blame God for our free decisions that will determine our eternal destiny.

I didn’t choose to be born, but I still have to pay taxes

When a man turns blind, the world doesn't disappear.

Neither does the TRUTH, when a man refuses to believe.

If sin never entered the world, no one would ever ask that question

I see a lot of misinterpretation of Turek's response as well as misinterpretation of Christianity in the comments. I'll admit, I think Turek's response was overly simplified and didn't exactly answer the question. So by God's grace, I will try to give a better response to the question.

Before I start, there one particular argument of Turek's that people are strawmanning. That is "if you don't believe in God, where do you get your morals from." People seem to not understand what he meant. He's saying that without the existence of God, you cannot justify an objective morality because all morals would be subjective.

Anyway, here's the response to the question "Why am I guilty of sin if I didn't ask to be created." Firstly, everyone is guilty of sin because they choose to sin. Not having a choice in being born is irrelevant. You can't commit a crime and then tell the judge "I'm not guilty because I didn't ask my parents to conceive me." Secondly, every human being wants to live and have a good life. Saying you're not guilty because you didn't want to be born is dishonest because you do in-fact want to live. God gave us the gift of life (which we desire) and also gave us a chance at salvation. So you can't claim that you want to live but at same time, reject the responsibility for your sins.

However, the question gets more complicated when you incorporate the fact that God is omniscient i.e. "If God knows that I would not be a believer and I would sin, then why did he create me and ultimately punish me for it?" Well firstly, I do not think it is right to deny some people life simply because they will not believe in God. Everyone must have a fair chance at salvation and a fair chance to make a choice. Denying some people the choice of everlasting life while giving that choice to others would be playing favourites and discrimination. Also, many people who do not believe in God give birth to those who do. So preventing unbelievers from being born means you're also preventing believers from being born. Moreover, unbelievers are also often instruments in bringing about God's plans. For example, Joseph's brother's sold him into slavery but God used that circumstance to make Joseph basically the most powerful man in Egypt. And Joseph ultimately lead people through a famine and guided the people of Egypt. So if God didn't allow Joseph's brothers to sell him into slavery, that good that eventually came out of it would never happen. So using the same logic, unbelievers can even be used to make people believers in many cases.

In the end, you realize that you cannot blame God for your own sins because he not only gave you free will to choose good but he also gave you an opportunity to not be punished for your sins and have everlasting life. So it's like Frank said, if you do not accept salvation for your sins, then the only person responsible for that is you.

The guy asking the question seems to be such a lovely person.

correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think in his question he was doubting God's existence. Instead, he was saying, why do I risk of spending eternity in hell if I never asked to be created?

didn’t ask to be born and now I have to live until I die

I think about this concept literally every single day of my life, the fact that I did not ask to be born and that I was born to two people who were definitely not meant to be parents. And now, because of their recklessness and poor decision making I must continue to live my meaningless life. This doesn’t sit well on me. Now, I can either suffer through life until I’m elderly and pass away or off myself which I also don’t feel like doing. I just feel very tired and that everything I’m doing is pointless and unimportant and I wish I had just never been born because my birth was equally as pointless...

He asked a question i asked when i was a teen. Infact i see many questions i asked as a child been asked these past years. However not all who answer; answers that question. By God's grace, it is by reading the bible heartily and many times over and essentially the help of the Holy Spirit, i understood. *Sometimes, it is best to be on our knees to ask the one who can answer us with discernment that cannot be explained rather than men.

I'm a christian and accepted him when I was 12 years old. As I got older life gets harder and unfair. As a human being we naturally throw tantrums at God "I didn't ask to be born!" Our problems and hardship is because we are fallen. God has a way in putting us in a situation where we experience joy and peace in the midst of all the chaos that you're going through. He reminds you that he created you because he LOVES YOU, we're saved by faith and his wonderful grace in this fallen world. It's a gift 😊 🎁, but a choice. Christ is my rescue ship.

That's a fabulous answer. I struggled with that question myself but Mr Turek nailed it.

How can you consent to being created when you're not created yet?

Figured I'd throw it out there.

Then why do you give birth and procreate knowing that there is suffering in the world for your child?

If it was possible to choose my life to be born into this world.. I’d choose not to because there just so much crap we have to deal with in this world and it sucks... I gotta try to make the best of it

Hmm. I didn't find this answer intellectually satisfying. The analogy fits but I was hoping for more.

"I did not ask to be created" Yes that is because you were not in existence yet. But God wanted to create you. And he made it possible to get saved by Jesus.

Better analogy: you are on a boat with the maker of the boat and he didn’t ask if you wanted to go. Then he claims that the boat is sinking(even though you can’t tell that it is) due to his poor design. And then the boat maker claims that another better boat is waiting just around the corner but you have to drown first before it can help you. Now is it fair to ask why the boat maker forced us on this boat ride?
