I gave up on applying for a tech job in 2023 after two years of numerous job application attempts and interviews that went nowhere. It's more effort than it's actually worth. I have a comp sci degree with a professional certification (which was a costly to take). The market is way too saturated with desperate foreign graduates/workers that is willing to work for as little as $1400 a month just for a chance to work. It was easy to get underbid that even asking the for the average industry rate (as stated on Glassdoors) was considered "too much".

If you're financially restricted like I was after post grad. It's time to give up your dreams, wake up to reality and apply for other jobs. Because sitting, indulging yourself in self improvements/projects and waiting around for a callback is the worst decision you can make! It's a surefire way to be homeless since weeks turn to months and before you know it you're down on your last 500$ in your bank account.

The real reason is those people are mostly unqualified. Doing a bootcamp doesn't get you enough skill to be a good hire, why would anyone want to hire you if ChatGPT does a better job? There is a big shortage of senior devs, but not as many junior positions and oversupply of low quality junior devs.

I am a hiring manager and that is not it. I interviewed 7 candidates last week. We have to hire onshore for security reasons. Every single candidate was attempting to scam and impersonate an American native worker. This is a massive part of the problem. The other part or challenge is, we can now take a very small team of sr engineers and teach them how to augment their development style with AI coding tools. Which massively increases productivity. Which allows for 1 day to have 2-3x their normal output. This we simply don’t need more engineers nor entry level engineers.

I'm in school for IT and I have a lot of CS friends. I don't envy their position
