Just got laid off last week and it’s hard to get back in but I won’t quit. Even picking up part time gigs in the meantime while staying up to date and getting certs. We will prosper soon. Peace.

Market is beyond crazy. I've got two years in tech and an associates in Software Development. Out of hundreds of applications, I only landed one interview with a company. Recruiters reach out to me then I get ghosted. Wild world in tech!

You forgot another reason : Youtubers selling a hyped up dream of going into tech with the assumption of high pay and flexibility. Combine that with people that have a lazy entitled mindset, and the tech industry is now flooded with people who shouldn't even be in it and are just faking it for the paycheck.

I also bet that a LOT of the people currently complaining that there are no opportunities out there, are the same people expecting a 6 figure salary right off the bat and don't want to lower their expectations cause they want the life of the IT people that have been in this for decades.

I know some older tech that are unemployed now for a while. They are catching it extra hard by also having to deal with ageism.

These scammy recruiters are destroying it as well. Im so tired of fake job postings and interacting with super unprofessional recruiters. I even contacted a few companies about it and they dont even care that they're being represented by such trashy recruiters.

I waited so long to go back to college. At 28 I was interested in pursuing a career in tech and was pushing to work towards a MIS degree. After careful consideration I am now working to get my A.S. in HVAC and move towards the trades. I have worked in retail my whole 20s and deciding to retire and change industries completely. In the world we live in now a college degree guarantees nothing and I have to be able to provide for myself and my family for years to come. Hopefully the trades will teach me a lot, offer a competitive salary with a lot of opportunities. Thank you for all the advice on tech and wishing you all the best!

Tech job market sucks because of offshoring. Companies are laying of Americans and hiring overseas. Then add in the huge number of influencers telling folks to hash tag learn to code and you have more workers joining a shrinking job market. Last companies I have worked for do this now for new projects: hire a couple onshore architects, a couple onshore staff devs, and all the mid, junior, and senior devs are cheap offshore.

That’s why I switched to healthcare finance, it now has a higher demand with less supply, since it is often overlooked.

I knew it wasn’t me doing something wrong. I graduated back in may and have applied to around 250 jobs. Got only 2 interviews and rejected

I was recently laid off by both my jobs. It is hard. I have a few interviews lined up this upcoming week. Wish me luck!

I 100% agree!! I've been trying to break into Tech sales since 2022. With life and everything else going on it has been hard I'm not going to lie. Especially when I'm watching people trained with break in and some excel since then 22. Networking and mentorship will be two of the biggest keys to always breaking through a stagnant job market. The mentorship will give you guidance and skill acquisition. You will understand the mind of the role through an experienced professional and how to market your skills towards that role. A mentor keeps upskilling, skill utilization and strategy at the forefront. Networking keeps you connected to the right people for the right time. As you lay the groundwork with your mentor to highlight your abilities, the people you have in your corner can help push you through the right door.

Very true. Get the bag however you can and upskill. I worked in construction til I landed a 60k job...then 6 figure role. It takes time.

The worst I have seen it in 20 years. Hoping it gets better soon for all. I agree with the referral and networking.
