One of the biggest mistake is to try getting a job in a highly competitive companies. Start slow, it does not have to be 6 figure salary on your day 1. It took me only 8 years to get to 250K base salary by starting slow and learning from everyone around me. Eventually I got where I want. Good luck and be patient.

Am sorry to hear that you have such frustrations: it must be scary! I retired as a software engineer. I was frustrated that the technology has gotten so dull: languages are old, Web is old, etc. AI is new, but that is scaring management from hiring.🤕
