I’m telling you man tech-support jobs can be a bridge as well because you work with developers and product managers and I’ve seen a lot of people move on to developer roles from tech-support

People apply for senior developer jobs because companies are posting only senior developer jobs at junior or even entry level pay.

Maybe do a video where you follow the journey of one of your students and document how the process has gone for them from starting the program to getting a job

The whole Tech recruiting market is trash right now. Employers don't know what they're looking for, and the recruiters are lazy and useless too! Like others have said, the job titles/duties aren't matching up with a equitable salary.

I just started a Data analyst job in an Ai department. They threw me to the wolves day one. I’ve been busting my ass but honestly they have t even bothered to train me. It is what it is. Ima do what I can to learn but after that I’m out.

I could only speak on my experience searching for jobs. I 100% agree with having a solid resumé and portfolio. When I was recommended for an Email Developer position, the first thing that they really liked was one of my transactional email projects. They also looked at my skills with Klaviyo and WordPress and I don't even touch those programs. I just use Parcel, Litmus, PS, Illustrator and Airtable. So, make sure you have your resumé and portfolio lookin' good, keep grinding and your time will come! Thanks for the content, Joe!

Another thing is that jobs are getting more toxic.

Great video! When you get in the door with contract labor(or FTE), you network your butt off with coworkers, tech leads, managers, and developers. It will do wonders! It all comes down to taking calculated risks. Putting yourself out there is super important, as that shows them that you are interested and care about being in the industry. I see all too many people that think they are too good for this role or that role... and it's painful to watch them struggle with things that they don't have to :(

Most job postings are for ghost jobs that don't exist.

Going temp/contract is a good option. I have been hired 'full-time' using this model a number of times. But as my man says, no job should be considered permanent! I've lived by that.

It’s the job market

The problem is most of these companies aren’t looking to give people those opportunities and these jobs that would have are being offshored to India.

The thing about temp agencies is that we are heading into a major recession if you are a contract worker you should be prepared to be let go at anytime if the top says we need to reduce headcount. Full timers get priority over contract workers.

Yup temp got me the biggest pay day of my cybersecurity compliance career. Might not be the ideal platform to share this but hope this helps someone and offer that alternative perspective to someone who’s about the shut the door on trying. God bless!!!

There were 110, 000 OPT visas granted to Indian students this year. The OPT visa gives employers a 15% discount, because they don't have to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes. And the STEM OPT visas is good for 3 years. Why, at a time when there are hundreds of applicants for every IT job, are we giving employers a HUGE tax incentive to hire a foreign worker.
That worker gets trapped in that visa class, and then tries to get an H-1b visa. The employer never looks locally for a worker, because all local workers are automatically 15% more expensive.
We need to reduce the STEM OPT visa back to 6 months.

If you live in the US the real answer is outsourcing. You can't find a tech job because the jobs are moving to countries with lower costs. Work in any enterprise and more than half of your coworkers will be in India. Then there are all the workers on Visas.

More ideas:

-how is the first days of a developer
-developers uses AI at work? Is ok?
-red flags jobs
-how to behave when interviewing
-focus on layout or JS fundamentals?
-good JS vanilla portfolio or “shitty” react one
-when knowing how to code but can’t explain during interview
-applying overseas as junior is ok?

On the topic of contract jobs: Yes, some companies hire full-time employees out of contract work. Yes, you should be looking at contract jobs if you need a job right away, or if you have limited experience, or no experience. Yes, temp agencies are a great way to get your foot in the door of a company. But don’t get your hopes up, most temporary jobs are just that, temporary.

I’ve been a full time employee at companies that hire temp workers and promise them the possibility of full-time employment at the end purely to motivate them to work like dogs, when the reality is that there is no chance they will be hired full-time.

I wanted to mention this because I’ve seen employees quit full time jobs to take a contract gig somewhere else because they believed these lies. DO NOT QUIT A FULL TIME JOB TO PURSUE A CONTRACT GIG. ALWAYS ASSUME THE GIG IS TEMPORARY NO MATTER WHAT THE COMPANY TELLS YOU. DON’T BE TAKEN FOR A FOOL.

I got my first chance through an apprenticeship, and I got that apprenticeship by applying to different types of SWE roles in the lifecycle. Front-end may be flooded, back-end may be flooded but check out devops, cloud, data analyst, business analyst, network engineer, data engineer, etc. Also keep interviewing and applying and you’ll get better at both. Keyword TF out of your resume! And lastly, big hiring times of year are August/October & April/May. Best of luck!
