Great analysis! As someone who started with the Amex Gold first, I would recommend that card first. It is easier to justify on a daily basis. The Amex Platinum is great if you know you will be using it for a minimum of 2 roundtrip flights per year every year. Sales people and regional Directors will love the Amex Platinum card.

I used your Platinum calc, and even with high-end estimates for the travel I've actually done over the last three years, the Platinum makes sense only in the first year, for the 100K MR. This is a first Amex card to churn as a stepping stone to downgrading to the Gold - great video!

If I had saw some of these videos earlier in the year I would have tried for the AMEX Platinum card. 100K MR points is still 100K MR points. The credits make the Annual Fee a little more easier to swallow. I applied for the EveryDay Card in Jan and then the Delta AMEX Gold card in Feb (because of a 50K mile signup offer, missed the 60K signup offer a month later :( ), so I am out of the market for the 100K Platinum offer. I was getting a 50K point offer for the AMEX Gold a month ago. I will wait for that to come around again. Meanwhile, I'll finish with my 5/24 slots with Chase!! Great Video, Sebby!

I got the 125k offer for plat and the 75k gold. Applied for both on the same and got them! GGs

I got the Gold about 2 years ago. Recently got the Platinum. Periodically I would go to the Amex site without logging in, just to see what Platinum offers turned up. I was offered 75k MR for $5k spend. I took the offer. The AF's to carry both cards, is steep for some, but it works for me.

Gold card is so much easier to use for the casual person. $100 dining credit and $100 airline is easier to recoup than the platinum credits. And the 4x dining is just an easier category to fill.

I got targeted for the 100K offer for the Platinum 2 days after Christmas 2019. That was a nice Christmas present from Amex! 105, 000 MR points posted to my account, and I just picked up the BBP. So happy for the points and can't wait to try out a Centurion Lounge!

One exception you might have forgotten that happened to me: get gold card with 50k MR bonus, use it for one year, get upgrade offer to product change to platinum for 60k MR bonus after $5k minimum spend.
