I have the platinum for over 8 years signed up for the gold card last month and still got the sign up bonus

I've had Amex Platinum years ago before the recession. In more recent years Ive gotten the Gold card for the points and have retained it. Years ago the Platinum had a $500 annual fee which was doable & the Gold $150. I can not justify paying $750 for a card so I stay in my lane with the $250. Fingers cross 🤞🏿 the annual remains the same

Another hack to point out, if you have a platinum card from another country you can still get the plat bonus here, it doesn't count. I relocated from Singapore to the Bay Area and had platinum card in Singapore, moved here, applied for the gold card (60K bonus) using the global transfer program and then got the platinum card later with the 80k welcome bonus. So if you move around for work, you could keep getting a new plat in each country along with the welcome bonus.

Well good thing I got the gold and then immediately the platinum recently. Suo - 90k for gold and 175k for platinum!

womp womp I went for platinum first back in 2022 so no longer eligible for the other SUBs now. I did get the 125k SUB through resy though, which also came with 10x dining for first 6mo. I be eating so when it was all done, I had 200k MR points! Not too shabby Sebby! Now I'm leaning more into hotel cards - this time starting from the bottom and climbing the terms ladder with more strategy.

I got the Gold Card first. Seeing as how I have a trip planned for Europe next fall, I just signed up for the Platinum Card. I already know that the Gold Card is my preferred card as the restaurant and grocery store incentives are something I take advantage of weekly. After my trip to Europe i will reassess the Platinum Card. I may downgrade it after my travels as I wont see the benefits vs annual fee making sense at this time. Yet, I have some time to see how it goes.

1. I use to put gas on my green card the use the MR pts for statement credit! 🤦🏻‍♂️ rookie mistake.

2. The Gold card is my favorite AmEx card. Food is our biggest expense, excluding mortgage.

3. My Chase Sapphire Preferred is my other favorite card.

AmEx Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance SCREWED ME!!! I charged a $14, 000 Alaska cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage. We got covid halfway through. They denied our claim because the it was not a ROUND TRIP CRUISE. We made the mistake of not booking our airfare back to Vancouver on the same card.

Just took a pretty generous gold to plat upgrade offer even though I’ve never had the plat because I seem to be perennially in pop up jail on personal cards anyway and I rarely spend on gold . I realize I may be losing a potential intro offer here but on the other hand I imagine I could downgrade and eventually get another upgrade offer and I’m really always struggling to garden for chase anyway 🤷‍♂️

I have a question about Airline credit. Can I use my Amex Platinum card to prepaid for my family and get reimburse for the baggages and food thru United Airlines?

My P2 does not have any American Express Cards. So far she has been cycling through all of the Chase Ink Cards. She was not pre-qualified for the Citi Strata Card but did get the Capital One Venture X. Should she get a card like US Bank or should she start with the Amex cards since she wasn't pre-approved for Citi at this time. Which card should she start with for Amex? Personal? Business? Hope to do all of this in the right order!
