I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I don't want to eat at cheesecake factory every month.

Ill do the math for everyone. If you don’t use any of the credits it takes $700 a month of spend at a 1.5 cpp redemption to beat a 3% cash back card. I use my points for hilton where i can get 1.5 cpp. If you do use the credits then you gain more value. For most people they will be better off getting a card like the savor one. The amex gold is the best for familys that are spending a fat amount of money on groceries

Pairing this with the Schwab platinum amex can be a home run if you travel and invest with Schwab. You get 1.1 point per 1 earned. You already get 4 point per dollar you spend on food/dining out. No cap on your dining out. If you spend $700/month on food which is pretty typical that's 700*4.4*12=36, 960 points. Dining out per month easily $500 another 26, 400 points. Free round trip/year or invest 600/year on Schwab and for a moderate to aggressive investor 7% over 10 years. You could potentially earn $3, 000+ in returns. Which is crazy to think about earning money on your spending.

I actually just got my Amex Gold Card last week. I'm thankful for creators like yourself (and others) for breaking the Pros and Cons down of this card, and as a frequent traveler and food connoisseur (lol), I figured this card would be perfect for me. It's a huge step-up from my Capital One Quicksilver.

I'm still doing research on cards, and I haven't done this yet, but with Amex Gold being a charge card, is it worth while to pay my bills & rent using this card if I know I can pay it off every month in full?

Do you know what changes coming to the gold card. It would be cool if they change the food coupon book to better restaurants.

If they increase the annual for the Gold, I am out!

After Oct 1st 2024 the annual fee will be $350. I just called Amex and confirmed. 👎

I have this card and got the 90, 000 point sign up bonus. I always use the $20 credit a month and have redeemed flights for 1.9 CPP with my amex points. Great card!

Yo I categorically disagree with most stuff in this video. He said at the end that this card isn’t only good for travelers but also people to who eat too. Which is fine except that the only way to redeem Amex points and get “outsized” value is to transfer them out for international first class tickets. That’s low hanging fruit because if you’re doing literally anything else with the points, they’re being devalued massively. He also comments on “working for your rewards”, which I disagree with, because we already pay an exorbitant amount of for a “food” card and then have to work for the reward on the back end. This video wasn’t really a breakdown, I feel like it’s shilling…

i think the capital one savor one is the better food card for most people, considering it has no annual fee, and 3x pts on dining and groceries. running the capital one setup seems a lot more feasible with its 395 dollar setup in comparison to the AMEX setup of 945 dollars.

Honestly at $250 annual for 4x groceries compared to savor one no annually fee and 3x cash back seems like a no brainer

I love mine! I use it as my daily card for almost all purchases and pay it off to zero before that statement close date.

I don’t understand how this card is worth it for $250.

It seems like the idea is to encourage monthly restaurant spending, especially through Uber Eats, but the Uber Eats and Restaurant credits only make up for $240/$250.
I guess if you order like $25/month through Uber eats every month you will make up for the annual fee given the 4x credits on restaurants… but that’s a lot of commitment to just break even.

The $600 intro rebate is cool but that’s also just 1-time.

If the idea is for this to be a foodie lover’s card, the $100 hotel credit and traveler points redemption options seem random and there are better travel card for that.

IMO - this card should double down on being a foodie card, particularly for Uber. Drop the $100 hotel credit and travel points redemption options, add a free Uber Eats annual membership, and add favorable points -> Uber Eats cash conversion options. Keep Amex platinum as the premier Amex travel card.

As-is it seems like a struggle to take advantage of this card enough to just break even on the annual fee.

Correction: Done right, you’re paying around $500 (maybe a little less if you redeem the points for travel partners) for the card before you start to gain value from the points. It takes $250 of spend at 4X points and 1 cent per point redemption to make up the $10 effective annual fee after the credits. Double that cent per point redemption to 2 obviously cuts that in half, but that still makes it nearly $400 before you gain a profit, so to speak. Not hating on the card, but I wish more credit card YouTubers would speak about these cards in those terms.

I thought it was an AmEx gold video not a transfer partner video…

Personally, I have found the AMEX is the most valuable card in my collection from a price to return perspective. However, it is looking increasing likely they will revamp this card in 2024 and increase the AF. If they keep the same credits, but increase their value, I'll be fine with the increased AF. With that said, I am afraid they may tack on a RESY credit instead, like the Delta cards, which will be a net loss for me in the area I live. Until that point, it is a fantastic card for my use, however if the changes do come, I may have to reconsider it.

Wow get this. I went to my local Five Guys and I thought the guy charged me three times because the receipt wasn't printing and I swiped three times all approved. A girl comes over and says we don't take American Express, I go what, but you have a big promo with Amex.
