No, men do not sit and "think about nothing". We're not oafish morons who willingly empty our minds because "Daahh, thinking to hard. Hurt brain". What we will do is sit (fishing alone for instance) and PEACEFULLY ENJOY/PONDER THE MOMMENT in quietness (I repeat, quietness).

Yup. Just chilling with a beer, sitting on my back porch, listing to the wind and the birds and NOT a negative thought in my head. Yup. Pure heaven.

Not consciously thinking about a problem is oftentimes a really good way to give your brain free rein to come up with a solution.
Last week I was sitting outside with a coffee watching the branches and leaves moving in the wind, the closest to a thought was "this new coffee blend tastes great" and I had a Eureka moment to a problem I've had regarding the break angle of the strings to the tuning keys on a guitar I'm in the process of designing. I'd been "over-thinking" it for a few days and just decided to file it away, resolve some other issues and come back to it later.

In the army my buddies used to take the piss out of me because I could switch off and fall asleep in a couple of minutes. Something my grandfather who had served during the war told me that suited army life perfectly: why run when you can walk, why walk when you can stand still, why stand when you can sit, why sit when you can lie, why lie when you can sleep.
Since I was in my early 20s I realized there's no point worrying about things you can't change, you just have to deal with it when the brown stuff hits the fan. I explained this to a friend and he suggested I investigate Buddhist meditation techniques, which I found both interesting and rewarding.

If western women can't just switch off, perhaps it explains why they are borderline insane? I used to get sick to death of hearing my ex-wife's voice droning on and on for about 90 every day after work. How bad must it be hearing your voice non stop in your own head, never being able to turn it off?
