Does a Kidney Cleanse Work

A Kidney Cleanse is set up to "cleanse your kidneys" the same way a filter in your house or car is cleanses. Teas, smoothies, drinks all are supposed to work by cleansing your kidneys. Does it work? Is it worth the money?

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”.

The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way. I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.

Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and YouTube sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 YouTube subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

I regard doctors as I do journalists. I take EVERYTHING they say, with a huge grain of salt.

Just want to say what beautiful world we would have if we had more people like you that can just stand up and tell the truth these people with these commercials so they should be locked in jail.

Cooking Doc, do you mean the BP meds that caused the kidney failure in the first place? From what I have learned since bf going on transplant list is it isn't just insulin that causes kidney failure. Bf was down to 25 and his renal doc said his BP too high and switched his meds and low and behold his next blood work showed he was down to 19, time to be put on the transplant list. Sure his BP is normal now but hard to celebrate. So, I looked into the fine print and guess what, new BP meds are hard on kidneys! We trusted this renal doc because he is suppose to be the best. Why? Why would a renal doc put a person with low levels onto a med that would make him a candidate for transplant? Oh that's right, transplant business is a multi-billion dollar industry!

You lost me at “take your medicine”. A food doctor who undermines the power of food. I’ve seen it all

A doctor who’s talking about detox and in the next sentence advice you to take your medication makes no sense to me.

Food doctor huh....lol.
In the end, his sound advice is to eat more fruits & veggies, stop smoking & eating red meat to often. Ummm isn't that the same old saying we've all heard since day one??!!?? Here I thought I was going to get some real insight 🤦‍♂️. I'll just stick to my water, lemon & apple cider vinegar mix and continue to stay away from the quacks on yt.

Bridget's Brew

(Assume all ingredients to be organic/clean)
9 cups distilled water
3 cups barley pearls ("pearled barley")
3 teaspoons fresh sliced ginger
3 teaspoons Ceylon cinnamon
° (not "Saigon" or the cinnamon peeps in the States use for baking)
3 drams grape seed or coconut oil
Half lime or lemon
1 teaspoon honey

Rinse barley til milky water runs clear
Set timer for 21 mins
Put water, barley, cinnamon, oil and ginger on stove in a big ol' pot.
Bring to a rolling boil - once boiling immediately reduce heat to low setting (1 or 2 - no more bubbles from boil)
No need to cover - butchya can if you like I suppose.
At 21 minutes* (total from the moment you place the pot on the stove to the moment you remove from stove), remove pot and strain liquid into anther pot (removing all solids (ginger and barley)
End product is a strained liquid. I use a strainer covered with a fine mesh nut bag to strain as I pour from the hot (cooking) pot into the cool pot.

* if you boil or leave too long on the stove, the barley will soak up all the water. Point with the initial boil is to "wake up" the barley.

Should make 6- 8 cups.
Serves 2 for 3 days
1-1.5 cups per serving per day.
Store in a bottle or jug in the fridge

Take at least 1 cup in the morning with half a lime or lemon and honey a half hour before eating anything to give it a chance to get in there without "fighting" or competing any other foods or meds n stuff.

Serve warm or cold. If heating up, use the stove and don't boil - it's alive. No microwave either- it'll denture the molecules - basically kills the yummy goodness.

Brew every three days for a season (90 days). Bit of a labor of love. Make a little ritual of it. Have fun!

Do what the good doc here tells you - eat clean, exercise, quit them habits that you know aren't serving you no how. :)

Drink your Bridget's Brew

Then visit the doc here and get tested again. See what he tells you.

Be well!
