How to stop impulse buying

Hard truths from a former broke shopaholic that you need to hear - mimetic desire. When you learn that none of the things you want are independent thoughts but rather suggested by meaning and value we place on things and others, it can really help you question how much you REALLY want that thing and WHY #hardtruthtoswallow #shopaholic #impulsebuying #deinfluencing #mimeticdesire #lowbuyyear

We don't buy things, we buy meaning. Preach.

Please do a full video on this!! Identity and why we shop and what we shop for. My perspective YouTube channel just did a great video on buying luxury because of low self esteem and I think it is spot on!!❤

This is absolutely TRUTH, and even with (myself) acknowledging this- I still can’t break that cycle of shopping. It’s a real addiction for me. I shop out of boredom, and buy for that quick gratification. I’m not in debt- but I don’t need any of it and certainly don’t have the room for all of it… never mind the other issues.. Its all fantasy- It’s really difficult for me to break that and stay committed. I have this information- but have the hardest time putting it into practice.

Oooo! "We rarely buy THINGS, we buy Meaning, " Very insightful, Christina!!
We also buy connection and belonging.

My grandmother lived so differently... not a big consumer, had the same furniture and decor her whole life, small closet of clothes. She spent a lot of time with friends and gardening, and rarely shopped for anything but food.

Watched this earlier. Just seen a woman with Prade loafers on the train. Thought ooo must look at how much they are I’d love those. Then remembered this video! 😄

When I feel to spend I put the items in my cart and leave it. If I come back a week or two later and still really want it then I will buy it. But I realize that most times the urge to spend is gone as I am thinking with a clear head or maybe wisdom kicked in lol.

Well said and very wise! This is really resonating with me right now. Thanks for continuing to talk about this and for promoting conscious consumption. 🥰🤗

I don’t like to typically call attention to things some would consider flaws. But I just want to say those little dots on your forehead (I’m guessing a scar maybe from acne) are just so stinking cute and pretty. They give me joy when I see them in your videos. I have a similar one on my forehead I used to hate so much and now I love it.

I never do impulse buying. I always search for months until I find the perfect thing lol and then everyone around me asks me where did I get this thing. It’s kinda annoying cuz I had to spend so much time comparing different options and watching thousands of reviews and they get a link right away cuz I’ve done all the research for them…

Thanks for putting a name on this behavior for me. I've recognized it, but never knew what it was called. I always ask, "no, but what do **you** want?"

So how do you balance the desire for the more ‘expensive’ things with the justification of buying quality to last, investment pieces, classics so you have less waste? Would really love a longer video on all of this ❤

No Christina...I really love expensive shit..and I am broke 😂 I have realized it runs in the family as my toddler niece would always choose the more expensive thing.

I agree. But once someone looks up something to get an idea of how to organize or dress up an outfit…. YOU SINK INTO ALL THESE GADEGTS, HANDBAGS, HOME DECOR😩😩that one starts to want to buy those items. Lol. Probably this is just me 😄. Oh well🤷🏻‍♀️, just wanted to share something.
I so like your style by the way👍🏼

Probably true for many people but I don’t think that’s quite it for me, honestly. I moved 13 years ago to an area which is very rural, unlike the urban area where I have been my whole life (which was quite an adjustment) and I don’t share any tastes in clothes, makeup or home decor of any of my new friends or people I work with. But I still buy the same things I used to, because it’s so easy to buy online (or sometimes drive back, even though it’s a good 2-3 hours one way). I think I still have some kind of lingering image of who I am? Not sure…..
