For me, its being bored. Also, you wanna enjoy the fruits of your labor. Grinding through the work week is taxing and you wanna reward yourself for the hard work

It’s been me until recently. I bought about 100 pieces of clothing within a few months last year. I was trying to build an image of someone that I am not. I realized just how heavy my college debt is, just how important my credit score is. Since then, I’ve pared down my wardrobe to 25 pieces, all of which reflect me as I really am. I save money wherever I can. I have been paying off my debt. And Lord, I feel so much lighter. I feel so much lighter.

Why I want to be a minimalist?
1. Declutter myself
2. Stop living paycheck to paycheck
3. Enable me to start making meaningful investment

Thank you for your great content!

I will say what helped me is being aware of Impulsive buying. Every time i go out and want to buy something i would tell myself no that is impulsive buying.

Not going on social media has definitely stopped my excessive spending.

I also has recently started unsubscribing to emails from my favorite stores so I'm not tempted by a "deal".

My next task will be to stop wasting money on eating out.

Go to places like the Cafe, the cinema and the library. Don't go to stores. Best tip ever. Remove yourself from the situation and place where the impulse can happen. I spent sooo much time decluttering and purging. My motivation: I'm never doing that ever again.

Binge watching your videos.

You've talked me out of SO MANY impulse buys that I'm pretty sure I actually owe you money now.

After all these years, Ronald is the best to present this topic. Most youtubers on this subjet are women who keep talking and talking too much and say too little useful information.

I had $17, 000 in credit card debt twice and used a debt snowball to get of them (10 years ago) and never went back. I kept a paper trail of every penny I spent and where, because I was determined to get rid of debt. It became a mental game with me to see how much I could do without and it actually became fun to realize that I didn’t need or suffer without all the things I thought I needed and wanted. My motivation was to get out of debt and it became a really fun process!

Totally agree with you about social media. I made a radical decision and deleted both Instagram and FB. No more comparison with people and less desire to have the "perfect" home design. Peace of mind at last!

Thankyou for this. I just need to stop going into town! Cos when I’m there I ‘need’ a brew and a cake, and the cafe is right by my fave clothes brand so I ‘just have a look’ to see if there are any bargains - and yep, I’ve bought a dress. I don’t need another dress but it’s pretty and reduced so I buy it. And I love wearing it but I didn’t need it! By the way I’m a middle aged English woman but your videos resonate so much. Thanks! 😀😀

All good tips! And then there's the, "leave it your cart for 24 hours" and come back to it! I almost never actually need the item after 24 hours!

Just wanted to say thank you for not having all sorts of consumer items in the background..After scrolling way down the search results, you were the first person talking about this topic who didn't!! It's crazy that so many "minimalists" or financial gurus, etc are basically cancelling out their message by showing off their neatly curated homes in their video. Not all of them mean to, but they're helping to sell a particular lifestyle by doing that.
As you alluded to in the video when you talked about triggers in social media, seeing these curated dream homes with great lighting is the kinda stuff that is a trigger for me, and probably others, too. So thanks for your message and for practicing what you preach with your video 🙂

Sold both of my very expensive bikes yesterday for a fraction and the guy wanted to sell me folding bike!

I resisted because I gave myself time to think before making yet another impulse buy! 24-72hr before any buy helped me!

New tip I’m gonna try: stop carrying credit cards!
