Hoarders ❤️ How to Stop Impulse Buying & Emotional Shopping | No Spend

In my 20’s I had a full blown shopping addiction in college. This was how I coped with the trauma once I escaped my abusive ex-boyfriend. I had racked up $10,000 in credit card in just a few years. Luckily I wanted to change and took steps towards paying down the debt. But the debt wasn’t going down because I hadn’t fixed the root of the problem…and that was controlling my impulse shopping addiction. There are two main events that helped me stop my shopping addiction and in this video I share how I did that!

My daughter does most of her shopping in thrift stores. She will spend an hour or two roaming in them and loading her basket. Then, she goes around unloading almost everything back onto the shelves. She gets her high and saves her budget. She always pays in cash.

Putting stuff on a wishlist for a week or so really does help you evaluate

Library therapy instead of retail therapy? Go, browse, take home whatever you want, spend nothing!

I'm 40 years addicted shopper, mostly thrift stores and garage sales. I've always had a spare room or garage full of stuff where can't even enter the space. It got way worse about 5 yrs ago when I decided to sell online. Now I have a basement AND garage filled, over 1200 square feet total. I vowed to stop in Oct 2022. I've gone in thrift store 5 times since then, sad that it's right next to the nearest grocery store within half hour of my house.
The urges and cravings to go shopping were bad.
The last time I went, I put back every single thing.
Now I have to clean out or list online my hoarded items.

I stopped going into craft stores to “look around” or to occupy my time. I also stopped emails from stores, unfollowed stores on social media, stopped follow on YouTube, and stopped text messages from stores. If I don’t see it, I’m not tempted to buy. I have more than enough and have donated a lot as well. I don’t need 8 Easter or spring wreaths. I have only 1 front door.

About once a week I go on Amazon and add a bunch of cute things to my cart and never check out. Then I go through it the next week and delete everything because I didn't even like it after going back in. Everything you're saying is SO true!! I've even done this physically at the store and put things back after filling my cart. It felt good to admire the cute items and felt even better walking out of the store with my money still in my pocket!!

I think 2005 is a pivotal year for everyone because I see that as a year where stores and malls were expanding. Premium outlets started popping up and there were new jobs and more money for those people that had those opportunities. For most people, there were just so many things to want. Those things ranged from electronics to cosmetics to other new inventive gadgets. We need to pause now and think about how easy it was to get sucked into debt and wanting those things.

You are so right, everything is expensive and to take care of our budget as best as we can is a good way to lower our stress levels.

Hello from Germany and hi miss heart, good ideas. Make it the same way and when my kids are older I learn them to safe money for needs. No spend is one of the ways I go, minimalism and frougel living are the others. Be safe

You are a rock star for fighting over the shopping addiction!
I am still at the moment of not walking into stores or shopping impulsively online-but happy I took the path.
Trying the no spend challenge since a while now, and man, that is a great feeling!
Thank you, Mrs. ❤️ for putting into words the feelings of many and humanizing the struggle.
You are an amazing person! A big shout out to you! 🦄 ⭐ ✨ 💜

I window shop all the time! I’ll spend hours in Home Goods and Hobby Lobby and rarely buy anything. Just looking and enjoying all the things is the high ❤️

I never had a problem with shopping. I love to look at various thrift stores, Michael's, JoAnn's, rummage sales, Dollar Tree, etc. My kids give me gift cards or I use
cash. Our local library gives away old magazines. Before I buy something new, I have to get rid of something old. Tina, Al's wife

It is amazing that now I often wait in the car while my husband goes in to certain stores, ie Marshalls. Since I know I don't need anything and will just come out with stuff because it is beautiful I choose not to go in. This is progress.
