When the main character gets kicked around and humiliated for most of the story and then finally stands up for themselves, people find it cathartic. It’s not about condoning their violent actions; it’s about the relatable desire to fight back after being mistreated. That sense of empowerment resonates with viewers, and enjoying that arc in a fictional movie doesn’t mean someone is a bad person. People understand feeling powerless and relate to the struggle, which is why revenge movies have always been popular.

One of my favorite little details from the first movie is in the scene after he shot Murray. There was a wall of different broadcasts reporting on the incident, and you could hear that the news programs would censor when he said “You get what you deserve!” But then show Murray getting his brains blown out.
To me it was such a cherry on top by showing how modern society (particularly the media) is insincere in its morals and has its priorities backwards.

The best villains always have an element of truth to their madness. It makes it more realistic (and therefore scary) that someone like that could exist, but also it tells the audience to be careful of their own base impulses, desires and capacity for evil.

I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now i realize it's a musical.

My favorite theory is that Todd Phillips didn't want to make a second movie but was forced to, so he made it as bad as he possibly could.

I think the reason why Joker was liked by many was because it showed a part of what it is to be human that many doesn't want to talk about. One problem I see people have today is the fact that they think " life is always sunshine" when in fact "rain" also exist. Do you get what I mean? Simply put, Life can be bright but it can also be dark, and Joker's story was a dark one and people relates to that because people has dark times as well, some make it through to the end however there are those who broke down and wasn't able to get thru the dark times, pretty much what happened to Joker himself.

We already knew we lived in a society, we didn't need more of it

They couldn't leave a movie that goes against "the Message" alone without fully deconstructing and destroying its legacy. The movie was made to deconstruct the Joker persona, ending with Arthur himself rejecting the Joker identity and dying ignominiously.

The Batman (2022) and the first Joker movie was WB proving they know exactly what people want and they can do Batman and Joker right and the second Joker movie was them saying but we will never truly give you that

Alan Moore's thoughts on people liking Rorschach quickly come to mind. Yes, it most likely is a producer mandated sequel, but make no mistake: the showrunners actually hate you, and hate that you enjoy entertainment the "wrong" way.

Beware the "media literacy" crowd.

"Humiliation ritual for the first one doing so well and resonating with wrong people"

100% right about Joaquin. Hes one of the only actors out there that can actually convey emotions in scene properly

It is stunning to me that someone can blow $200 million in such a spiteful way by making a movie guaranteed to appeal to no one, and the director will continue to get work at major studios instead of being backlisted. This is why Hollywood is collapsing.

The first movie is literally about Arthur embracing and becoming the Joker, i hate so much how the sequel ruins that with "muh wanna be normal" outta nowhere and all these cringe musical scenes, absolute joke of writing.

7:54 that is not what an anti-hero is. An antihero is a hero that does heroic things through not so heroic ways

They did it on purpose. It was a humiliation ritual for everyone that liked the first movie. Cant let men have a relatable piece of media, completely unacceptable.

you can literally feel the hatred from the director and main actor.
Hollywood is just evil.

the musical part isnt the problem (other than the fact they dont relate to the story a lot of the time, they are just random), its the fact that they just emasculate him because they CLEARLY didnt like seeing people being happy with the ending, it really feels like the director absolutely despised the joker so he just fucking deleted him

The first Joker was relatable not because we can relate to the comic book clown of carnage. Its because we related to the character of Arthur Fleck. A guy down on his luck. Not really living his best life. Dealing with assholes and literally getting assaulted. A man who allowed himself to defend himself ONCE. That eventually sent him down a path of revenge fueled evil.

I can't say for everyone who watches the first film but for me it was a perfect documentary of how a taste of power in the mouth of the powerless can change decent people to committing terrible, yet somewhat justified deeds.

Yet while the incident on the train could be seen as a form of self defense. Debatably because of the last man he killed. What he does to his former colleague and the talk show host clearly was not.

Yet in the mind of Arthur Fleck who was now under the persona of The Joker. It was.

They literally had the Joker be r*ped and killed in that movie, after showing his "fans" as unhinged weirdos that he hates and made the movie more about the new female lead than the titular male lead.

But sure, we totly can't tell why they made that movie and what was the message here.
