Since Taxi Driver doesn't have a sequel, someone at Warner should have made Todd watch Bonnie & Clyde... THAT would have avoided all the problems.

To me, it was an intentional undoing. I felt this movie was equivalent to the last episode of Game of Thrones. Just a total dumpster fire.

Joker 2 should have been a mix of Goodfellas (the rise of Joker and his gang) and Cape Fear (Joker going full on crazy like Max Caddy) keeping up the Scorcese homage, which was a huge aspect of the first movies success.

The first movie was never about the Joker. Most people who didn't like the first movie disliked it because there was no trace of the Joker in Arthur. The director left an open ending, allowing people to imagine a future where Arthur becomes the sociopath and source of chaos we all know and love. But the directors NEVER intended to write a story about this immature, cliched fantasy. The Joker was an excuse to explore and dive deep into the mind of a complex character, and Joaquin did a perfect job of bringing that to life.

And now, the sequel, which the team never wanted to make. They had two options: either follow the route everyone expected—master plans, charisma, and control of situations that Arthur NEVER HAD THE SKILLS NOR THE COURAGE to handle—or continue exploring this pathetic character that Arthur is.

To me, they took the best of the two options, and they did it brilliantly.

The only mistake? Naming these two films The Joker, as they have NOTHING to do with the DC universe.

The first Joker had brilliant & wonderful scenes but I really didn't care for the movie overall.
I like Lady Gaga but there's something about her, she cannot carry a movie.
I can see why the team said there would never be a sequel. Too bad Warmer Bros didn't listen.

A humiliation ritual for the people who made the first movie too BASED by accident.

Todd should have listened to Harvey: you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I saw the YouTube Music, the Soundtrack to Joker, Folie a deux. I thought that its more like a musical and they were hoping to get lots of money from the Music side of things. But if the Movie is trash, then thats not going to happen either. Im disappointed that they've done this, but still want to see it. Such a shame theyve ruined a great character that they could have done so much with. I think the problem was - nobody has any imagination to do anything great any more. Hollywood has run out of talent and ideas. Theyve got directors of which are lazy, rich & fat who are either paedos or drug addicts or both.

This was a cash grab. 200 mil budget for a courtroom musical ? come off it. They balooned their salaries and did whatever lazy thing came to mind.

I dont think anyone thought he was the psycho criminal mastermind usual Joker but we were just happy for him that he emancipated himself from being a depressed perpetual victim, only for the writers to deconstruct his development and return him to being pathetic.
So sad.

I think the director wanted to say: "criminals are not to admire. We have to stop it! Own your mistakes and don't look for apologies or hide behind psychological issues. They are not an excuse."

The first movie was only great because of an extraordinary performance from JP...Plus, let's face it, the public are starved of decent movies starring a male ...so, word of mouth helped...
Personally I am not keen on the Harley Q character and much prefer to see the Joker up against Batman and the other villains..

Getting revenge for the rejection by fans of all their cringey woke crap they've been trying to force on fans? Just a thought.

It's actually a cashgrab. They needed to stick Lady Gaga somewhere, and used this movie as an offering to the altar of business. Too bad it went wrong for them.

Only goes to show these people get way too much money for what they do. How many times do you need to learn this? How many deconstructions and "subverted expectations" are you going to experience until you stop giving them your money?

I mean, sure it keeps your content stream going on if you make a living from video essays.

I liked it, it was a very sad movie about mental illness and delusional thoughts, with a super sad ending

this movie was about joker and not about arthur fleck himself.
joker is not a person. it is like a virus which has its home in pretty much every human organism.
not everybody will ever show symptoms of it. but nutured through hunger and ignorance it will bloom and spread.
i came to this conclusion after loosing many hours overthinking the film. luckily i didn't need an aborted psychology degree for this.
