Nailed it. Insurance is a complete rip-off. And the constant tug of war between the insurance companies and providers just exacerbates the issue.

I’m 73 years old and have Medicare now. I was self employed throughout my working years and paid for my own health insurance. When I turned 50 my rates started jumping quite a bit each year. When my rate hit $1200/month at 55 years old, I dropped my health insurance. (That was a high rate back then.) I decided that if I did have a major health crisis where I’d really need my insurance, I probably would not be able to keep working and would not have an income to pay the insurance premium and they would cancel my policy. Fortunately I didn’t have any major health expenses so I was fine until I was able to go on Medicare. I did find that doctors would often give me a discounted rate because I was a self pay. The only bad thing with this approach is that if you do have major healthcare bills without insurance and you don’t pay them, it’s the hospitals and doctors that won’t get paid, not the insurance companies. So healthcare costs will go up and that causes insurance costs to go up. It’s a vicious cycle and I don’t see a real solution to it.

You say to vote differently. And who do you suggest we are to vote for that will change this problem? I’ve not seen either party do squat.
So all I can say is vote for less taxes to be taken so there’s more in our pockets.

The Anthem Medicare plan offered by my employer is a joke. Counting down the days to Open Enrollment so I can change plans. Health “insurance “ is a cruel expensive farce.

Wow. I’m not sure if that insurance is your personal policy or a family plan, but you’d be better off putting that money in a compounding interest account and self-pay as needed. Then reassess every year and especially when you’re ready to go with Medicare and a Supplement (which is what I have).

I got the lowest plan because I don't go to the doctor much. My coworker got the top because (i think she's a Hypotendriac) she always have whatever is going around. She pays 105$per week we are factory workers not making tons of money. The family plan is more than double that so they have to try and get overtime or work 2 jobs to get by. It's crazy. 2 people found new jobs just because our insurance is so high.

Have you considered a primary care service that you pay monthly, approximately $100.00 per month per head and supplementing with a hospitalization plan? Another choice could be a health sharing ministry, technically not insurance but might be worth investigating. If you look into this option I would avoid Liberty health share. I was with them for a few years and felt it was a total scam. Obviously $44, 500 a year is undoable for the average person. Medical tourism is another avenue but does no good in an emergency.

Years ago I was quoted $760-$840 per month for insurance. I decided to not buy insurance and pay the penalty for not having insurance because it's affordable 😂

Dr. Story, if at all possible please consider moving to Canada.(🇨🇦). We are short of physicians and need good Drs like yourself. Our country is the second largest in the world. We have many beautiful places and people are generally speaking nice here. 🙏
