Neuroplasticity - also known as brain plasticity, or neural plasticity, is the ability of the brain to undergo biological changes, ranging from the cellular level all the way to large-scale changes involving cortical remapping. Such changes often happen as a result of psychological experiences.

1️⃣ Continue Learning⠀
You can continue to improve your cognition by taking a new route, learning an instrument or language, switching to your non-dominant foot or hand for tasks, and finding a new routine to adapt to. The new synapse connections will be strengthened by active use. ⠀

2️⃣ Reduce Stress⠀
Stress dampens neuroplasticity in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex while increasing it in the amygdala. Maintain a healthy foundation in your lifestyle by getting adequate sleep, exercise, nutrients, and maintaining your environmental factors.⠀

3️⃣ Exercise⠀
Physical activity is one of the best ways to not only reduce stress but boost BDNF. You can do any form of exercise either strenuous activity or light aerobic exercise. Change up the activities to learn new skills like climbing and martial arts or travel new routes running or biking.⠀

4️⃣ Sleep & Visualization⠀
Sleep provides a cleanse for the brain, giving you the opening necessary to lay down new connections, form new memories, and learn new skills. Once you lay down for the night try visualizing a task or circumstance to improve neuroplasticity. Neuroscience shows mental rehearsals will activate the brain and central nervous system in the same way as actually performing tasks in the real world.⠀

5️⃣ Meditation⠀
Self awareness is so powerful when developing any new behavior. Once you’re more aware of your surroundings and thoughts, and when you’re more awakened to what’s happening in your brain and consciousness, you’ll be more likely to make value-based decisions. The more control you have over your decisions and actions, the more new neuropathways you will create for yourself.
