I studied neuropsychology and behavioral neuropsychology in university, and this is such a great overview.
Habits and even thought patterns that have been strengthened since childhood, since trauma, repeatedly over and over again are part of what makes recovery and healing so difficult. They are literally physically built into the pathways of our brain. But luckily, we aren't stuck with them. They are easy to fall back into, but we can ALWAYS build new pathways and new habits to help us build a healthier life and a healthier brain.
Our brain is so beautiful. I'm glad this type of video can make this valuable information available to more people!!!

I appreciate your content. I have been doing well recovering from cardiac arrest which put me in a coma for a month. I was brain dead - when i woke up I couldn't speak, walk, or talk. I couldn't recognize my mother, sister, brothers or children. I am making new memories and strive to get 1% better each day!

One thing that makes you stand out among YT psych channels: you communicate with the perfect tone. Not "gentle" - which can encourage complacency (speaking only for myself.) Yet not abrasive or shaming in the slightest. Might be the just the balance I need right now 👍

This video is wonderful! It made me cry, it let me know I have a chance to become a normal person. I grew up with sexual and physical abuse since age 5. I am remarried and I don't understand why I lash out and have anger. My husband has zero tolerance for that type of behavior so I'm constantly battling myself. My day to day is constant struggles.

I think the best form of challenging mental activity is to try and learn a completely new skill. Pick up guitar, learn how to dance, try juggling or yoyo; stuff that requires you to move in new ways and will inevitably require lots of failure before success

Orthodox Naturopath doctors were laughed at when they said the body and mind worked together and the body is a self healing organism. At any rate, this is great information.

Daily habits can be changed and it's fun to break mundane routine. That's why I love travelling and living in different countries. I get mentally and emotionally rejuvenated and enjoy new challenges with adaptability and understanding. More "Wow" moments every day. No time to be wasting in trivials. Break the routine and boredom by embracing changes and differences. Life is still a great experience.

Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.

My therapist I had since the 90s thought me about this subject when I was still very young. It was very inspirational to have held this knowledge over my years.

Great video, I really love the way you explain things so clearly and without any gimmicks. This is very useful information for me right now as I've just gotten control of my anxiety through dialectial behaviour therapy and looking to build more new, healthy habits and thought patterns.

Active listening... I had a friend who would call me while she actively drove her car. We're no longer friends - our last conversation happened while she drove... and carelessly offered advice when I just wanted her to listen.
