Primer Bulb won't prime or fill with gas, how to fix. (purge bulb)

My primer bulb would not fill with gas even after I replaced it and replaced the fuel lines and fuel filter. This video shows how I fixed it. Was just a stubborn clog in the return to tank port that took more than a blast of carb cleaner to clear.

Short and sweet and directly to the point! Very refreshing! Keep making more videos like that!

Going through this at the moment. Yeah, mine's not clogged, but WILL NOT draw fuel into the bulb. Bought an after-market carb, new fuel lines/tank grommets, new fuel filter. Absolutely tearing my hair out! Jim, Australia.

That looks like a Weedeater brand blower. I have the same one, or a very similar one, and that thing has been VERY good to me. Original carb, original diaphragm, original everything. I don't ever remember changing even the primer bulb. Recently the return line broke right at the tank, so I replaced both fuel lines. It's kinda crazy to think that I bought it back in like 2005. It's performed like an absolute champ. It was dirt cheap, too.

Thanks. I think I have the exact same problem and I am soaking mine in a small cup of carb cleaner over night. Wish me luck. 😅

Would you be able to answer a question I have, I recently brought a petrol strimmer from SGS engineering and I had to return as the unit was too heavy for me to use. When SGS received the item back after I confirmed I did not use it try to, they are saying as there was fuel in the priming bulb they can not expect my return as they are saying I put fuel in it, and attempted to start it, which I did not. My question is would there still be fuel in this bulb left over from SGS testing this unit as surely they would have tested it. I would really appreciate your thoughts why there is fuel in the priming bulb. Many thanks.

That’s a small check valve don’t poke it with a wire . It should open one way and close the other. It should close while the bulb expands after pushing drawing fuel threw the other hole pushing blows the fuel out and back into the tank closing the carburetor side .

Here is a strange one. Ive cleaned a Zama carby. Cleaned the check valve. New bulb, lines on correctly. Will not pull up fuel. Disassembled carby to check multiple times. Still wont prime. Spray with ether to start and runs, idles, and response like a champion. But srill no fuel in bulb???
What the hell is going on here?

I’m not sure how it was working because there’s a check valve in the fuel line fitting. Fuel is not supposed to go through it. That is a return port and fuel or air goes back into the fuel tank from it.

hi, biggest mistake because i have done it is the tubes to gas tank have be seated properly, if not the petrol tank can not hold perssure, nothing will work, like me you will look every where else but there good luck

Something else that comes to mind is that when I pump the primer bulb, it does not return to its original position. This may be your indication that you have this issue. I am going to try cleaning that part you show here and see if it solves my issue. Thank you.

It can be other things, I solved it by lifting the metering lever.
